Great Allegheny Passage

The Great Allegheny Passage is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Cumberland! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Great Allegheny Passage. Solid place for a quick stop

Was on a long drive and wanted to walk my dog for a few minutes so stopped here. Pay parking, but cheap -- $1 per hour pay by credit card only. Nice grassy areas just to the south and my dog enjoyed it. We went "up" to the main trail along the water -- if you want a long hike, it might be pretty cool, but we didn't have that long. Be aware that homeless people live underneath the main track and hang out on the track. We're from the big city, so it doesn't bother us -- 3 saw us walking our dog and asked what kind of dog he was, all cool -- they didn't panhandle and didn't ask anything else. Getting off the freeway is a bit odd because this is an old district with one way streets. But the old town is kinda neat. Overall, a solid walk with our pooch, and if you want to take the long hike, might be worthy of higher bone rating.
