Its not in the city but farther out of the way. We were really excited to take our foster there with the agility course. That said, we pulled up and noticed the ground covered in deep holes, goatheads and 🌵 everywhere. No shade at all. And my husband thought he saw a snake. No doggie bags either. It has a lot of potential but not there

I don’t know how long the previous review was but it is now fenced. I have little dogs and have had coyote sightings were I used to live. My doggies wear their coyote vests that are covered in spikes. I took them to the park off leash and they had a great time.

Lol there aren't coyotes here. Get real dogs if you're afraid of those mangy mutts.
Area is not very developed, which is great. If you want an HOA and long list of rules to protect your delicate feelings look elsewhere.

We eagerly drove out of town to Montessa Dog Park, only to discover an unfenced, over grown with sticker bushes area, vaguely defined. We would not let our dogs out of the car. The risk of coyotes in this area seemed very high and nothing to keep them from getting to your dogs. No one else around and far enough from traffic, but full of goatheads and other sticker shrubs. This has the potential to be an excellent park, similar to the ones by Santa Fe's AHS, but it is not really at this time a park for anyone. If fenced, cleaned up and a few shade kiosks added, this could be a very popular area to bring your dog for an off leash walk and for their person to get good exercise too. I hope the City will someday make this area a pet friendly and people friendly place. As a woman, alone, there is NO way I would be out there now! Or with a small coyote bite sized dog!
