Mule Deer Trail is one of the trails at Golden Gate Canyon State Park that leads to Frazer Meadow, an area with historic structures that is especially beautiful in the spring.
The trailhead we started at was a 5.2 mile round trip to Frazer Meadow. It is moderate--a mild uphill to Frazer Meadow on a well-groomed, sandy, trail with only a few rocky areas and some jutting rocks and roots (watch your feet to avoid twisted ankles). It is a great trail for dog and there were many, many dogs on the trail. The park is generally very dog-friendly. I would not attempt this trail if my dog was not friendly with other dogs because you will meet many of them. You do have to share the trail with mountain bikers, which means watching out for them and pulling your dog off for them to pass. It can get a bit annoying and it would be great if the bikes were not allowed--but it is a great MB trail, so it is important to coexist. The plethora of bikes is the reason for 4 bones instead of 5.
The dogs had a great time!
