We loved going on this trail with our Zuca. She is extremely active and loves a challenge, so giving her a trail that was steep and had added difficulty with large rocks and boulders to climb was even more exhilarating. She absolutely loved it. Make sure to bring plenty of water and to take your time.

We took our dog up this trail and it was absolutely beautiful. Saw tons of wildlife—hawks, blue jays, chipmunks, frogs, and a fuzzy caterpillar. I will say it was NOT easy though. Majority of it is straight uphill, I think over 600 ft elevation gain in about 1 mile. Had to take many stops, but there’s quite a bit of shade so that was nice. At the top, we connected to champion lodge pole path around Lake Bluff which was easy and amazing and our dog REALLY loved that.

This trail is actually pretty steep, with lots of tall "steps" (it's rocky) so if you have bad knees, this is not the trail for you. At best this hike is moderately challenging, for those who aren't serious hikers, it is challenging.
It's about 870 feet of elevation gain over 1.7 miles. In the San Bernardino (steep) mountains. Do the math.
