Located on the north shore of Lake Superior, this popular park is best known for the historic lighthouse that sits atop a cliff, warning boaters that they are nearing the coastline. There are a number of trails around the park for you to enjoy with your pup, each more scenic than the last. Dogs are welcome throughout the park, as long as all mess is cleaned up after them.

Bring Fido to hike the pet-friendly Superior Hiking Trail in Two Harbors, MN. Sprawling over 310 miles across northeastern Minnesota, this popular thru-hike hugs the shoreline of Lake Superior for most of the length. The trail can be accessed from car parks located every five to ten miles, so you don’t have to hike the whole thing if you haven’t got the time. Lake Gogebic State Park covers 360 acres and nearly a mile of lake frontage on the west shore of the largest inland lake in the Upper Peninsula in Marenisco, MI. Leashed pups are welcome to join you on the trails and in the open space areas.

Gitchi Gami State Trail is a dog-friendly 89-mile paved route between Two Harbors and Grand Marais in Minnesota. Snaking alongside Lake Superior's beautiful and historic North Shore, the trail is being completed in several short segments and is already proving popular with both cyclist and hikers. The longest section to be developed extends 17.6 miles from Gooseberry Falls State Park to Silver Bay and leads hikers through both urban and natural environments. The trail begins at Gooseberry Falls State Park and continues northeast through Iona’s Beach Scientific and Natural Area and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park before entering Beaver Bay and Silver Bay. This segment offers breathtaking views of the park’s multiple waterfalls, and an expansive vista of the Lake Superior shoreline. Hikers should be mindful of steep hills and curves along this stretch, but there are numerous rest stops along the way for you and Fido.
