The property protects a 1.5 mile stretch of Lawson’s Fork Creek and several feeder streams. Over 5 miles of trails offer runners, naturalists, and dog walkers a break from city traffic. It provides a place for citizens to run, walk, kayak, canoe, and to enjoy other recreational outings. This urban greenspace has many unique and outstanding features including several wetlands, open spaces, geological formations, and offers habitat for deer, wild turkey, fox, numerous birds and reptiles, wildflowers, and trees. The park provides the only public access to mountain spring-fed Lake Jocassee, a 7,565-acre lake which attracts tourists, dog owners and water sport enthusiasts. Santee State Park The 2,500-acre pet-friendly Santee State Park, located on Lake Marion in Santee, SC, opened in 1949. Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten or harass wildlife. Pups are not allowed in or around lodging facilities. See Details
Poinsett Bridge Heritage Preserve Travelers driving the scenic route along Old US Hwy 25 can stop to stretch their legs at the 120-acre Poinsett Bridge Heritage Preserve in Landrum, SC. This dog-friendly area is home to the oldest bridge in South Carolina extending 14' high and stretching 130' long over Little Gap Creek. The bridge was constructed from locally quarried stone and features a 5' Gothic arch. It was part of an old state road that connected Charleston and Columbia to North Carolina. See Details

Florence Rail Trail (SC) The Florence Rail Trail (SC) is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Florence! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Florence Rail Trail (SC).
