Trouble in park

While the concept of the Decatur Dog Parks is a great one, they have several issues yet to be resolved. The original "Fido Fields" in Fairview park is currently accessible only by walking along a hiking path which is approximately 1/2 mile, or coming in off of W. Main Street due to the on-going construction of a new bridge to access the lower areas of the park.
The Nelson Park "Fido Fields" is currently accessible only by walking across the main road into Nelson Park or by attempting to drive up to a "Temporary" parking area. This is currently nothing more than a partially rocked mud hole. Your car WILL slide in the mud!
Nelson park is also not protected by an electronic card reader so anyone and everyone has easy access to this area. The current paid members of Fido Fields are required to have their pets vaccinations current, be spayed/neutered and over the age of 6 months. A vet certification that our pets are not aggressive is also required. Since this area is open to anyone currently it is definitely at the pet owner's personal risk to bring our pets there. The exposure to non-registered pets which may be ill or aggressive is possible.
