Travel advice NY to FL with dog.

We are planning to drive from New York to Florida during this winter, and need some advice about hotels and rest stops along the way. We would like to take 3 days to reach our destination near Tampa.

Any recommendations about dog friendly hotels along the way, or any other advice/ opinions that will make this first long trip with our dog easier, will be very appreciated.
