    Amazing B&B

I was given a gift certificate for this B&B specifically so I could take my pup and we had a fabulous time. We especially loved hiking around the property through the fields and sitting in the porch that came with a big comfy dog bed for my boy. They provided everything you could possibly want for a getaway with your canine travel partner.

    Perfect Pet-Friendly Getaway

My husband and I along with our Goldendoodle all had a wonderful, peaceful, and thoroughly relaxing stay at Sundogs Bed and Breakfast. The building was lovely with very spacious bedrooms and common areas, the landscaping was beautiful (Peggy had been the director of gardening at Mount Vernon), and the breakfasts were excellent thanks to David's culinary skills. Their property includes over 40 acres with numerous trails, and the nearby area also offers excellent outdoor opportunities for people and canines alike - walking in the Antietam battlefield, hiking along the C and O canal, hanging out at a nearby winery. The charming university town of Shepherdstown is pet friendly and given its small size, has a lot to offer. Nice shops (including an excellent bookstore) and good restaurants, some of which even welcome dogs to sit inside!

    Perfect weekend getaway

My boyfriend and I stayed at Sundogs with our two pups and had a wonderful experience. The house and surrounding grounds are absolutely stunning - we took the dogs on many long walks around the 42-acre property. The rooms are spacious and spotless, and dog crates and blankets are provided (upon request). The shared space was cozy and inviting. The breakfast was delicious, and the owners, Peggy and David were very accommodating. We will definitely stay here again.

    A True Gem

I cannot recommend Sundogs enough. This b&b was intentionally designed to be a pet-friendly property where your pup is welcome even in the common dining and living rooms. The property is beautiful inside and out with well-furnished rooms, comfortable outdoor seating and porches, and gorgeous landscaping. The two-course breakfast is delicious and the owners, Peggy and David, are wonderful and engaging hosts.

    Wonderful spot!

What a beautiful house and location. Peggy and David were such gracious hosts. The house was clean and spacious and they took care to put lots of personal touches in place for our stay. The pup loved exploring the grounds and we even saw some deer prancing around in the foliage. This place is a comfort for both humans and pups.

    Dogs very welcome

Sundogs is the perfect getaway for you and your traveling pooch. I recently spent an evening in the beautiful Bailey room with our rescue beagle Petunia and was very impressed by the inn. Firstly, the surroundings are gorgeous and just far enough from the town of Shepherdstown to have quiet and privacy but access all that the town offers. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the inn and grounds (off-leash in your room).

The inn itself is beautiful with carefully tended gardens and happy rescue goats and chickens. Shepherdstown itself is highly dog-friendly, all of the shops and even some of the restaurants welcome dogs indoors. One note for those traveling with larger and/or mobility-challenged canines, I believe all of the inn’s guest rooms require a flight of (carpeted) stairs, so keep that in mind if your dog needs to be assisted. The proprietors are passionate about rescue, which is an added bonus.

AMAZING B&B! DON'T pass this one up!

My husband, our dog Jax and I stayed in the Bailey for two nights while we were in town for our Son's wedding. We are so, so glad we chose to stay here!  We had a fantastic stay and our experience at Sun Dog's B&B was world class! I am a Realtor and my husband works for the government, so we can be picky sometimes, but Sun Dog's exceeded all of our expectations. I will also say the photos while they are great just don't do this B&B justice.

Peggy and David the B&B Owners/Hosts are absolutely amazing! You can see and feel that they put a lot of thought into this B&B and to make any guest's stay amazing here! They are both so friendly and welcoming also! This will definitely be our spot to stay any time we are in Shepherdstown or the area.

The Bailey room was very comfortable and we loved the corner location. It had a breathtaking view of the gardens, pasture, and trails. The bed was super comfortable and the room was very spacious (definitely a lot bigger than any hotel room we've ever stayed in). The en-suite bathroom was awesome!  We loved the oversized walk-in shower and the separate toilet room. The room also featured a large closet and everything you may need including an extra "dog blanket" that Jax loved. There is also a smaller refrigerator on the 2nd floor guests can use if need be.

The main floor common areas are awesome also. We absolutely LOVE all of their gardens. Peggy definitely has an eye to create beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces. The gardens were full of pollinators, especially many butterflies and hummingbirds. I just love watching them and could for hours. They have an amazing, very large front and back porch, as well as a side screened porch that connects the front/back porch for guests to relax on. The rear porch is also set up for breakfast outside and we enjoyed our breakfast there every morning. The rear patio is also amazing to kick back on and has beautiful views of the gardens, trails and green pasture space. We enjoyed our morning walks with Jax on the many trails here. Parking was ample and always easy to get on-site also. Parking is located right in front of the house. By the way, their breakfast is awesome! It's all plant based, but so yummy and if you don't eat planted based you will still love it!

The location of Sun Dog's is awesome especially if you are in town for a wedding at Wild Goose Farm.  It took us 6 minutes to get to the wedding venue by vehicle and it was also a very short drive (under 15 minutes) to downtown Shepherdstown and around 30 minutes to get to Ranson/Charlestown. We loved that we could kick back and relax in such a beautiful, natural setting, but also be close to everything.

Peggy and David really have thought of a lot to make your stay amazing and enjoyable. There are so many smaller thoughtful things they do, but honestly you just have to experience it for yourself! You will be so glad you did! We definitely suggest anyone to stay here if you want a comfortable, world class experience and a personal touch that you just won't get anywhere else! This place is hands and paws down much, much better than any 5 star chain hotel we have stayed at.

    West Virginia Oasis

My dog Daisy and I had a delightful one-night stay at SunDogs in early April. We were the only guests and loved having the spacious and comfortable house to ourselves. David met us at the front door and made sure we had everything we needed. We then took advantage of the expansive grounds and set out to town for an evening stroll and dinner. I loved the quiet of the property, which allowed me to appreciate all the bird songs in the morning! I was also extremely pleasantly surprised to see a thermos of coffee waiting for me when Daisy got me up for a walk and breakfast! And speaking of breakfast, the Benedict was sublime! Thank you so much for a lovely getaway; we will be back! Two small suggestions: an accessible microwave and fridge for leftovers would be nice.

    A Real Find!

We stayed at Sundogs B&B for two nights for a much needed break from the city. Peggy and David are very welcoming. David was waiting when we arrived to show us to our room which was beautiful, comfortable and quiet. The house is amazing with both indoor and outdoor areas to relax and enjoy the view. The property is nestled amongst the trees with numerous walking paths around the property.
Breakfast was delicious on both days and enjoyed outside. Maggie our dog was welcome and loved walking all over the property. Lots to see and do in the towns close by. Already planning out next stay.

    Incredible place!

We stayed for a long weekend and loved it. The B&B is beautiful, with great rooms and the grounds are really wonderful with lots of walking trails that our dog loved. Location is great too, close to Shepardstown and Harpers Ferry and lots of hiking. We will definitely be back!

    PERFECT STAY

Sundogs is the perfect little get away! Not too far from DC but it feels like a true escape. David and Peggy do a wonderful job making you feel at home, giving you everything you need for your stay. Cannot recommend Sundogs enough and already looking forward to coming back for another stay!

    Beautiful Weekend!

Brought EllieMae, St Bernard, for a lovely weekend away. This is one of the most "dog friendly" places we have ever stayed! Peggy and David are wonderful hosts and have created a gorgeous, peaceful, quiet retreat.
Town is only ten minutes away with great shops and restaurant choices.
We are looking forward to returning and feeding the goats and chickens again:)

    Perfect Fall Retreat!

We needed to get out of the city for a couple days and were looking for somewhere we could bring our 30-pound cattle dog mix with us. Sundogs was a perfect choice and we will be returning!

We arrived in the late afternoon for check in and had a chance to take a glance at our generously outfitted room (nice sitting area, HUGE soaking tub and shower, large comfy bed!) and have nice walk around the property before heading ten minutes into town to a recommended dog-friendly cafe for dinner.

Breakfast on our first morning was a wonderful veggie frittata, biscuits, and fresh fruit, and we ate on the screen porch so our doggo could have a little more space to roam without us holding onto his leash (but he saw the good eats and stayed nearby anyway!). Breakfast the second day was fresh fruit, a marvelous blueberry scone and a sumptuous mushroom and spinach omelette, Yum!! They also had beverages and snacks available all throughout the day in the common area kitchenette.

Took lots of nice walks around the mown paths on the property and loved meeting the celebrity goats and chickens. Our only regret was not having more time to relax and settle into the common areas, but I imagine in post-COVID times with a slightly longer trip that will be easier.

Peggy and David clearly take great pride in creating a clean, safe, peaceful and pleasant experience for all their guests, and we can't wait to get back and are recommending it to everyone we know, with or without dogs.

    Exceptional Stay

My Aussie, Harper and I stayed at Sundogs B&B, 30 Aug - 1 Sept This B&B is exceptional! Squeeky clean and beautiful! These days, the value of a slight change in scenery and community cannot be overstated. To dislodge pandemic anxiety and get away for my Birthday with my pup, I found Sundog’s was the perfect recipe! Toss in some wildlife sightings, creek play, georgous gardens, scenic drives and hikes, with Sundogs you’ve got the perfect recipe pure pleasure! Peggy and Dave’s Vegan breakfast was just what I needed to start my day! The love shown to my pup warmed my heart. Harper was in dog heaven and I in raptured repose. Visit Sundog’s B&B and you will come away refreshed and looking forward to your next visit!

    Adorable!

We stayed at Sundogs this August with our 6 mo old German Shepherd. The home is gorgeous - freshly renovated and the grounds are overflowing with flowers and butterflies. I would stay here again even if I didn’t have a dog! The acorn suite had an awesome bathroom with a freestanding deep-soak tub and a large shower. the hosts were wonderful and patient with our pup. We especially enjoyed the fresh made omelette breakfast - you must try the biscuits! Peggy and David are clearly passionate about their endeavor and about pups too. Highly recommend!

    Lovely place

Peggy and David are great hosts and this is a truly dog-friendly spot: Everything from a blanket in case your dog sleeps on the bed to towels if he takes a swim in the creek. Despite that, the house, grounds and rooms are spotless and everything of the quality you would expect from a top-class hotel. One aspect that they don't emphasize in their marketing is that the food and beverages they provide are vegan.

    Tiger’s Retreat

From the time you walk in the door Peggy and David are warm, welcoming and gracious hosts. Amazing food, warm fires and a beautiful room with a view. Tiger had a wonderful weekend walking and running through the fields. All three of us are looking forward to our next visit to Sundogs B&B. Wish we could give more then five bones.

    Wonderful Stay/Happy Dogs

Sundogs Bed and Breakfast is a warm and charming property. Peggy and David, the owners/operators, are lovely and extremely caring. From the rooms and the food to the hospitality and grounds, we could not have enjoyed our stay more. I could not recommend a stay here more highly.

    Happy Veterans Day

Sundogs treated us on our Vet's Day getaway. The location is fantastic and lovely. Immaculate rooms. Great fire. We brought our little dog and just sat by the fire drinking some wine. Good conversation. Peggy and David have an interesting background and it's lovely to see them reap their rewards. The breakfast was lovely. We will be back! I wish them the most success. Don't hesitate at all to stay here and being able to not worry about your pets is icing on the cake.

5 bones, more if their are more

We were possibly the first couple to visit Sundogs when they first opened. I've got to tell you it was great, and seeing their plans for the future, we'll look forward to returning. The welcome was tops, our room was pleasant fresh & will lighted through the window.

Fumble, our Bernese Mountain Dog, had no complaints. He was on a special diet and David & Peggy helped tremendously so we could meet his needs.

The breakfasts were 5 stars with freshly made muffins and bread. Ii believe it was the most pleasant meal we can recall. (By the way, we're carnivores, David & Peggy are Vegans. It was good enough that if David would come home and be our personal chef we'd likely convert.).

They've a number of trails on their property to stroll with your dogs and enjoy the wild life and peace of the paths and quiet of the country.

Shepherds Town is a short distance a way, and the old town if filled with shops and restaurants that will complete your vacation, short or long. (My apologies, there is no McDonalds or Walmart to be found, but you won't be sorry.

Our Fumble recently passed from an illness, but we still appreciate staying close to our fury friends and mentors. Believe me, this is the place to go to find that peace everyone deserves from time to time.
