Owl Ridge Oasis
During COVID times, our property is only available to rent for 30+ nights. Guests receive a 40% discount off the normal nightly rate! The home offers guests the necessary amenities to work and/or learn remotely and is thoroughly cleaned, sanitized & inspected between renters. It is also a solar-powered home for efficiency and the surrounding property is fully-fenced for a dog to roam securely.
Owl Ridge Oasis is aptly named for the resident owls and countless song birds that are attracted to the feeders & baths surrounding this rustic 1970's ranch home. We are situated in the heart of wine country where the micro-climate offers optimum year-round weather - no chilly all-day fog like the coastal towns or high temps of the inland cities. We are barely a mile to Arroyo Grande's Village, only minutes further west / east to either the ocean or mountains & lakes. A short drive north through Edna Valley's famous wineries lands you in San Luis Obispo with trendy restaurants, boutique-style shops & lively college-town atmosphere. Heading south, you'll hit Santa Barbara with its equally fashionable atmosphere.
Our home offers guests a bucolic, simple, very comfy & relaxed setting inside & out (no modern interior or exterior upgrades.) The cozy "ranchette" with its single-level floor plan, has an airy interior / country charm that includes vaulted ceilings, skylights, multi-pane large sash windows, ceiling fans, an open kitchen / dining / living room concept with a wood-burning brick fireplace and 60" 4K Smart TV as major focal points. In addition, there is a separate large bonus room perfectly suited for remote learning / working, wine-tasting / socializing and especially romantic dining!
Since Owl Ridge Oasis is our primary residence, it is fully-equipped inside & out with most of what you will need to make your stay comfortable and secure. As you would expect when visiting anyone's own home, it also contains some large-size family heirlooms that cannot be moved out during visits. Because these treasures are of sentimental value to us the refundable damage deposit is set higher and the listing clearly states this home & property is not suitable for children under 18 yrs old. We simply ask guests enjoying their time at Owl Ridge to respect it as if it were their very own home!
Given that we are dog lovers with 2 loyal Labs of our own, we are fine with guests who would like their own pooch (max. 2) to accompany them to Owl Ridge. Before a final confirmation is possible, age, breed, size and other important factors need to be pre-approved. *** Out of respect to other guests & extended family members with cat allergies, these furry pets cannot be considered. Please note the pet fee listed is for ONE dog. If bringing 2 dogs, that fee is doubled.
Owl Ridge's simple architecture features a retro-1970's ranchette situated on a quiet, short private road. The property is best suited for 1-2 couples, a girlfriends' or guys' getaway, a family with older teens / adult children, or other mature guests who enjoy the rustic peacefulness of country living not found in the many other city/suburban options. The property's rural, secluded setting offers an escape from hectic city life; a quiet simple retreat to relax & unwind after a day of adventuring & exploring, further enhanced by the tranquil nights' sleep you would expect on your vacation!
There are 5 necessities travelers look for most -- a clean dwelling, comfy beds, luxurious linens, good coffee and an accommodating host -- all of which you will find at Owl Ridge. The MBR, with its Swiss "Duxiana" king-size bed, also has a small en-suite bathroom. The large double-hung corner windows offer peaceful views of an oak tree canopy. The guest BR, also referred to as "Bird's Nest" has its own private bathroom across the hallway. It, too has large multi-pane windows providing views of bird activity outside and expansive vistas of the property. When the owners are home, Bird's Nest (which has a separate listing on another vacation site) is available to guests looking for a countryside "B&B;" experience.
The large bonus room offers an optimal "formal" dining space with antique harvest table & chairs for celebrating a special occasion or holiday in style. The airy, bright open space has been a great spot for previous guests to work remotely, as well as a fun place to socialize around the tall bar table & stools while sipping your complimentary bottle of local wine.
If you are looking for real r-e-l-a-x-a-t-i-o-n, the bonus room is also an excellent, private space (can be closed off from rest of home) for a luxurious full-body massage from one of the many experienced local therapists. Afterwards, a visit to one of our area's excellent restaurants or a soothing soak in the outdoor hot tub are perfect ways to end your day...
Owl Ridge's outdoor features include a Jacuzzi brand hot tub positioned directly under the open skies with optimal star gazing (NO city light interference!), Weber gas BBQ, table & seating for "al fresco" dining as well as a large fire pit with a few nights of complimentary firewood. The wide front porch facing west & spacious back patio facing east (both with ample seating) provide great spots for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine while being entertained by the bird activity at the strategically-placed feeders & bird baths. You may even want to grab the binoculars and bird chart to identify what species you are viewing.
Surrounding the fenced property are old shady oaks, open fields with natural grassland and expansive, unobstructed views of the countryside hills. All of this is accompanied by the peaceful sounds of nature & bucolic setting found in country living! Guests who decide they do NOT want to use the hot tub during their stay, need to let us know this in advance of booking and we will remove that technician fee from their costs.
PLEASE NOTE: depending on the time you stay, the spring grasses (in photos) are lush green during our wet months, but dry out by spring. This area in general is also home to a prolific gopher population! The trade-off for staying with a natural landscape (it is not a finely "manicured" property!) are the daily visits from Nature's little friends -- plentiful song birds, deer, frogs, hawks, quail, rabbits, turkeys... and of course, OWLS!
