    Hotel Indigo Birmingham Five Points S - UAB an IHG Hotel is located in a landmark Art Deco-style building dating from the early 1930s in the city's historic Five Points South neighborhood. Originally designed for medical offices and across from the first apothecary in Birmingham, the building became a hotel in the 1980s, but still retains its original medical insignia etched above the elevator doors. The hotel's design acknowledges the building's rich history, while incorporating modern amenities, like hardwood floors, spa-inspired showers, luxury bath amenities and linens. We're also adding some exciting (and tasty) options to an area already known as one of the city's premier dining and entertainment districts. The Rx Lounge pays homage to the medical apothecary theme and provides prescriptions in the form of food and beverage.

      No Place To Walk Dog

      We were going to use this hotel as a base for taking day trips to hike and explore the area. It seemed centrally located and had several dining options nearby. Unfortunately, even though the hotel is dog friendly, there is no place to walk your dog at the hotel. You have to cross the street to a nearby church to find a small grassy area. The area has numerous homeless people panhandling nearby, so we were approached every time we went to walk our dog. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean, but had no hot water when we woke up to shower the next morning. This gave us a great reason to checkout and find a different hotel in a better area.

      Complete let down

      I only gave them a star at all because they were the only place I found that would allow my cat.

      I spent an hour trying to call them before arriving and couldn’t get anyone on the phone.

      They only offer valet parking, which would be fine if it were available. I called to confirm that a late check in would be fine, but upon arrival the valet rep spoke to us but then just went home. When we asked where to park our car they just shrugged.

      There is nowhere to walk a dog, so sure you can bring it but hopefully it’s trained to use a toilet.

      Lastly, the bathroom door was off its hinges. It was so heavy that I couldn’t open or close it. My husband had to let me in and out every single time.

      Because of its proximity to nightlife there is outside noise very late.

      Basically this is a crappy hotel disguised with nice finishes but no actual amenities and poor design.
