This hotel had great hospitality, with complimentary cookies and coffee at check in. Dog-friendly rooms are great but are carpeted so there can be a slight odor. Also no AC so room retains heat. No complaints from us though. We’d happily stay again!

While on a road trip with our dog we found ourselves in need of a hotel. BringFido found us the Svendsgaard's Inn and we were thoroughly surprised and happy about it. From the moment we spoke with the people at the Inn we felt relaxed and taken care of. Ruby LOVED the treats and the bed she was given to use for her stay. I highly recommend the Svendsgaard's Inn the next time you're in Carmel with your furry kid.

Everything was wonderful here! Not fancy but everything we needed! close to downtown Carmel, walking distance to everything! Kevin at the front desk was great! Our dog made quick friends and would bark for Kevin when we’d go to the front desk (he even had treats). Loved our stay and would definitely stay here again! There are also people treats (cookies) which were delicious! Thank you Kevin for making the stay with our dog so enjoyable!!!!!!!

This place is right in the middle of the shopping/eating part of town, and a short walk to the beach. The room was good and the price was fair. I would have given 5 stars except the location of the room I was given, was within close proximity of a lot of foot traffic. The room was next to the parking lot on one side, the pool on another, and the sidewalk where people were walking by pretty regularly. I usually rent cabins or cottages when I travel with my dog, partly because I like more privacy, but also because she is on alert whenever we stay somewhere new, and every time she hears somebody outside the room, she is more likely to bark a little to let them know she’s aware. Obviously, I don’t want to be a nuisance to my adjacent neighbors, so I probably should have asked upfront this time before getting my room, to ask for a room in a location with minimal foot traffic. I will stay here again, but will definitely ask for a more private location at the inn.

Staying in Carmel and the Svendsgaard’s Inn was fantastic. The city is very fog friendly, dogs are allowed on the beach off leash, and the Inn has a very good location. The courtyard also has a small garden.

We took our 5 year old golden retriever to Carmel for her birthday . We had a wonderful time . We stayed in the Sveensgaard Inn we would definitely stay there again. They had treats for our dog when we arrived and the room was clean and comfortable . We especially loved the lawn courtyard in the middle of the hotel which made it very easy to let your dog do their business .

I have always had the most positive experience with all staff members at Svensgaard’s Inn, Carmel-by-the-Sea! My family and I have stayed here many times and we love being in Carmel with a stay at a lower price compared to other hotels. It’s within walking distance from all the lovely shops

Very nice check in and room/property was clean. There was NO treats, bed or bowls provided that listed on their website but we had our own. Breakfast delivered to room was a nice touch.

Super dog friendly. Rooms with half-doors open onto a central grassy plaza and pool where a few well socialized dogs romped together in the morning. The bring-breakfast-to-your-room is charming. The staff was amazing. We'll come back to Carmel based on our experience at Svendsgaard's. The room was nice, very clean, tile floor so sandy paws don't make a mess, bed was great. All around a superior experience.

We stayed for 3 days with our two Huskies and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The front desk staff gave our dogs lots of attention and treats. There were cookie treats for humans too.
The room was comfortable and the mini-fridge came in handy. It was too warm to try out the fireplace so maybe we'll give it a shot when we return. The grassy courtyard has poop bag receptacles in case you forget your roll of bags.
The location is nice and close to downtown shopping and eating. Many of the restaurants are dog friendly with outdoor seating. Our favorite was Hog's Breath Inn which had central courtyard dining and a menu for the pups too.
It's a nice walk to the beach. Just be aware that it's all downhill which means the return trip is all uphill. We had to stop a few times on the way back but the dogs didn't mind with all the attention they were getting. Many businesses put out water bowls for a quick drink.
We will definitely be coming back to Svendgaard's Inn the next time we take a trip to Carmel. Love it!

This Inn is located very close to the main area and the beach of Carmel. We spent a weekend here with our dog and we felt very welcomed. The pillows and bed itself can be a little more comfortable, sure, but our dog got comfortable fairly quickly and that's all that really counts. The room is spacious with plenty of space, the bathroom is updated and the shower is very nice. Complimentary breakfast even included some biscuit for our pitbull. Carmel itself is a very dog friendly town and is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle life of big cities. Can't say enough good things about this Inn and the town.
