We've stayed here numerous times, typically in the same few rooms with a king bed on the ground floor for easy access to the grass with dogs. Beds are worn out, sink so bad that the last two times we've stayed there we've slept with our heads at the foot of the bed. TV remote didn't work and reception is horrible but it's a remote location. For the price, it's worth it but it would be nice if they invested a bit of money in their mattresses. No AC which can get a bit warm in the summer months.

The room was cozy and loved that it was close to Hearst Castle and Cambria.

Positives: Room was clean and comfy - came with a mini fridge and microwave. The back of the property looks out onto the ocean/beach and has a wonderful area with grass and various fire pits with chairs, and even a giant checker board and a giant chess board. Our pup especially loved the easy access to the beach.
Negatives: No shampoo or hair dryer in the room. We were able to get shampoo by calling the front desk but didn't ask about borrowing a hair dryer, so no idea if that is an option. The website says there is breakfast but I wouldn't really consider the choice of toast or a muffin, and juice or coffee as much of a breakfast. They also didn't have any muffins available.
Overall, enjoyed the stay and the location was perfect for our trip.

Good room. Friendly staff. Very large grass area with benches and fire pits between the buildings and the beach. Their beach is open to dogs.

Safe Stay: Sands by the Sea has enhanced cleaning and safety measures in place. Hand sanitizer is provided to guests, and rooms are disinfected between each stay. Social distancing measures are in place, as well as physical barriers between staff and guests. Hotel staff are required to wear masks.
