We were getting tired of fast food so we chose Candlewood Suites so I could cook dinner. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook a steak dinner. After a quick trip to the excellent Hy-Vee Grocery store nearby we were all set. The room was clean, the bedding clean and comfortable. There is no breakfast served, but none was advertised. There was a large gym which I'll admit I didn't use. The location was excellent for us as we traverse I-80 heading west. There is lots of space to walk the dog.

This was a late night stop with three dogs on a cross country journey. I phoned and asked for a king suite, but upon arrival was told whoever I talked to gave me incorrect information, as they only have queen bed suites. That's fine, it was just a little small. The hotel was not clean. Our room was okay, but the trash cans outside of the side doors were full of trash and cigarette butts, inside of the door was filthy with trash in it. The rod in the bathroom shower was coming apart, the chrome was peeling off of it. The thermostat on the wall didn't work, and it was pretty cumbersome to try to control the system via the wall unit. There is only one wall unit in the suite - only in the living area and not the bedroom. The hotel was fine, but in all honesty, I just don't think this particular location represents the brand very well. We wouldn't stay here again. I will say that the woman who checked me in at the desk was phenomenal. She was the bright spot in the stay.

Great spot for pets! This gets 5 stars for what it is: an economy hotel that caters to extended stays (or overnight), and is pet friendly. Joan at the front desk ran out to say hi to our English Bulldog! Very nice and pet friendly staff. The kitchen in our room had a hot plate, full sized fridge, dishwasher... it was great! We only stayed one night, but it would have been nice if staying longer. Amenities are basic, but more than adequate and very clean. The bed was pretty good. Not bad, not amazing.
Ample dig walking outside! You could easily do a 1 mile loop on sidewalks, with adequate grassy areas for dogs.
Not sure why the one reviewer called it an “institution”. Was a totally normal hotel. I saw a couple people in the lobby, but I always see people in hotel lobbies (this is normal). We liked the hotel and would stay again
