Sugar Loaf Cottage
Bottom line:
This incredible view must be seen to be believed! Waking up to Sugarloaf and the beautiful water of Greer’s Ferry Lake spread out before you is an experience like no other!
Although this house boasts three bedrooms, two baths, a spacious living area, a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room and a two-car garage, the lovely deck - that is large enough to be a second living area - and the stunning view of gorgeous Greer’s Ferry Lake, with Sugarloaf Mountain seeming to be within touching distance, may be your favorite part of the entire vacation!
The house is located in Fairfield Bay, AR, a resort community nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Fairfield Bay offers swimming pools, award-winning golf courses, tennis courts, hiking and ATV trails, restaurants, shopping, a beautiful marina - just seven minutes away from the house! - and, of course, Greer's Ferry Lake, a crystal clear, 40,000 acre lake.
Details:
Is your idea of a vacation spending all day at a gorgeous lake boating, fishing, swimming or water-skiing? Or is it kicking back at one of the beautiful pools with a cool drink after a game of tennis? Or is it maybe playing golf on one of two beautiful courses, followed by a scrumptious meal? Or is it hiking Sugarloaf Mountain, (or any of the nearby hiking and nature trails that are found throughout this area of the Ozarks), and then coming home to a cozy, beautifully decorated three bedroom, two bath house with a huge deck and an unforgettably gorgeous view? Well then, this house is for you!
The deck of this house is another entire experience!
Seeing the colors and stunning beauty of sunrise and sunset, dawn and dusk; hearing - and if you are very quiet, sometimes seeing, - deer grazing or traveling up or down the mountain; hearing the many bird calls, cicadas, and tree frogs in summer, watching the hummingbirds or, if you are especially lucky, watching the bald eagles circle over the woods right in front of you, then faster than you can register that those REALLY ARE bald eagles, they drop/dive into the lake, soaring into the sky with their dinner sparkling and squirming in their beaks; and finally, at the end of the day, watching stars as huge as softballs appear in the night sky, would make even Darwin feel closer to God.
Equipped with a double grill, (gas/charcoal), bistro and bar tables, so you can eat outside if you wish, plush, padded deck furniture, (even a recliner!), and a view of Sugarloaf Island and beautiful, pristine Greer's Ferry Lake that you'll never forget, you may just want to spend your whole vacation on this deck!
If it turns chilly, no worries! Just slip inside and grab a soft, warm throw from the hall closet and bring it outside, or stay inside, build a fire, and snuggle up on the leather sofa, recliner or love seat, and listen to the fire crackling while enjoying the delicious aroma of Ozark wood burning in the lovely, natural stone fireplace and enjoy the view from your cozy surroundings. You may choose to read a book, work on a puzzle, play cards or maybe watch the 60" flat screen TV. *Wireless internet, Blu-Ray DVD player and Apple TV are provided at no additional charge.
The three bedrooms easily accommodate six, but this house can sleep eight or more, as both the sofa and loveseat recline fully to make queen and double beds; just be aware that there are no light blocking drapes to cover the picture windows - and that view! (However, there are blinds outside that can be lowered to greatly dim the light from the sun.)
Along with the other furnishings, in the three bedrooms there are:
* a queen bed;
* two twin beds that can be pulled together to make a king; (linens provided for both sizes) and,
* a daybed with a pop-up trundle that can also be a king, (linens provided for both sizes).
There are two bathrooms, one with a bathtub and shower, the other with a shower only, a laundry room, a two-car garage and a kitchen that is equipped for almost anything you can think of:
* refrigerator with water & ice dispensers,
* microwave,
* electric oven with flat stove-top,
* large George Foreman grill
* Crock Pot
* blender,
* toaster,
* coffee maker and, of course,
* dishes, flatware, linens, pots, pans and utensils, and the must-have' spices, as well as coffee, tea, sugar, and sweeteners,
* an eating area with a table for six, that also offers a fantastic view looking out over Sugarloaf and the lake.
Things to do away from the house:
Located in Fairfield Bay, AR, there are GOOD local restaurants within a 10-minute drive, boutique shopping, a salon, a drug store, even a small bowling alley-arcade w/bistro, and a library. Craven's Grocery Store, Resort Convenience Store & Gas, and The Dollar Store are on Highway 16 that leads to Fairfield Bay, so you can stock-up or just pick-up anything you might have forgotten. Beaver Road Liquor Store is just a few minutes away, on the way to the marina, if you’re in the mood for some ‘adult refreshment’ while relaxing at home.
While you're there, don't forget to visit the Marina, only seven minutes/two miles, from the house, and spend a couple of hours getting the tour of the lake and some of the beautiful woodlands and small towns around it. You can rent paddle boats, pontoon boats, jet skis, fishing equipment and just about anything else to make your lake experience the most incredible one ever! The Marina is also where you make arrangements to be taken to, and picked up from, Sugarloaf Island - only accessible by boat - and hike Sugarloaf Trail, Arkansas's first designated National Scenic Trail. There are also many trails that are designated ATV/UTV trails!
From the house, you are just a short drive from Bridal Veil Falls, in Heber Springs; Mountain View and the Ozark Folk Center State Park, (where you can zip line to your heart's content at Loco Ropes!); Blanchard Springs Caverns, where you can see nature's underground, indescribable beauty, and, of course, Indian Rock Cave and Trail are right here in Fairfield Bay!
For the less 'nature-inclined,' there are antique stores, restaurants, shopping, (boutiques and box-stores), more salons, and other things to do all along Hwy. 65, between Fairfield Bay and Little Rock.
Finally, if you or a family member should need them - and we certainly hope that you don’t! - Fairfield Bay boasts Emergency Medical Services, Police Department, Fire Department, the Ozark Medical Clinic, Baptist Health Therapy Center and, of course, the lovely Hart Fitness Center, with state-of-the-art workout equipment, qualified instructors for yoga, tai chi and more exercise programs, and you can even create a customized workout with one of the licensed fitness trainers.
We hope to see you soon…remember, there is not a season that does not boast of God’s indescribable beauty here in the Ozark foothills around Greer’s Ferry Lake. Whether your favorite is the budding beauty of Spring, the bright, colorful sparkling of the sun on the water in Summer, the rustic, natural colors of the leaves changing in Fall, or the pristine clarity of the trees standing stark against the rocks and water in Winter, we have something for you to love in Fairfield Bay!
