  Pet owner beware!

  I have used Mutt Island since 2022 without complaint. On May 13, 2024, I picked up my dog, Nyx, after a 4-day stay and the manager/owner, nonchalantly states that Nyx has incurred an injury while he was alone in a commonly used area of the facility. There were so many failures. As a manager/owner, they did not personally inspect the wound when their staff informed them of it. The manager/owner did not call me when it occurred, depriving me of the opportunity to seek care. There was no immediate investigation of the cause. And most disturbingly, there was no first aid applied to wound.

  As a medical professional, I knew that I could manage the wound but any other pet owner should and would have taken their pet to the ER. I called the next day to detail all my concerns and the manager/owner's excuse was that they were "caught off guard" and apologized and stated would be reviewing the security footage to find the cause. Note: They still have not found it.

  I simply asked to give my receipts from Hollywood Feed which totaled less than $50 (cone of shame, bandages, antiseptic solutions, etc.) and this request resulted in them severing the relationship. Once I asked, the manger/owner's demeanor changed and they became combative and unprofessional. They cited that I signed a waiver that agreed to not hold Mutt Island liable for injuries and is not responsible.

  This is my warning to prospective clients of the manager/owner's questionable business practices. They are under the misguided notion that their waiver is enforceable and protects them from liability but having unsafe quarters demonstrates negligence. This post puts on record for the next incident to someone else's dog that the manager/owner and Mutt Island are fully aware of these conditions and have not acted to appropriately correct them. Thus the waiver's verbiage "Mutt Island will not assume responsibility for illness/injury of my pet unless it is due to negligence on the part of the Mutt Island staff." will be void.

  Note: In full transparency, I did take a settlement credit of ~$200 for Nyx's recent boarding which was offered (only after I inquired about submitting the receipts) when the manager/owner chose to end the relationship. Unbeknownst to manager/owner, this was far more than the $40 in receipts that I was asking to submit but it further highlights their lack of ownership for the poor practices of their business.

  Great daycare experience!

  We used Mutt Island during our brief stay in Memphis. We brought him for half a day and then a full day of daycare. He had a great time! He was happy to see us when we picked him up but also excited to return when we went back the next day. Staff was great too. Great location too.

  Friendly staff, nice facilities

  We were traveling from out of state with our yellow lab and intended to leave him in our hotel room in his kennel while we did some touristy stuff during the day. Our dog was anxious and barked every time we tried to leave the room so we called Mutt Island to see if they could take hime for a daycare visit short notice and the had space. We dropped him off and the staff was very friendly, the facilities were clean and spacious and we felt very comfortable leaving hime for several hours while we did our touristy stuff. The person checking us in even looked up some logistical things for us on the internet as we were casually talking about our plans. When we went to pick up our dog, he ran out, tail wagging, happy and a little exhausted from playing for several hours.They took good care of our furry friend while we were out and gave us peace of mind knowing our pup was safe, cared for and having a good time with the other dogs. Definitely recommend!

  Quality dog care near tourist activities

  Our dog spent the day here while we visited Graceland on a short trip through Memphis. It was a hot day and the facility was nicely air-conditioned. Our dog is anxious but they understood and handled her well. When we picked her up she seemed content, exhausted and clean. I would highly recommend Mutt Island when in Memphis.

  Perfect Place for Our Pup!

  We were staying at La Quinta Downtown Memphis and this place was right next to it. They were great and so accommodating. It was so convenient to take my Boston Terrier Ziggy on a little walk around the corner to Mutt Island while my wife got ready. They watched him while we went to Graceland and then they even watched him on Sunday while we checked out Beale Street. Loved this placed and so did Ziggy!

  Awesome Option for Your Pooch!

  Everyone (except your dog) has to visit Graceland when they go to Memphis.... so we dropped our hound off at Mutt Island for a few hours of play while we went. I’m so glad we found them - it’s such a great option to have a few worry-free hours. Place was very cute and clean and staff was friendly and professional. Wish every city I visit had a Mutt Island.

  Great experience!

  We were driving through, staying in Memphis just one night, and wanted care for our pooch so we could visit some Memphis sights. The staff who checked pooch in were very attentive and clearly understood both dogs (e.g. reached out hand for him to smell, spoke to him) and owners (invited us to walk thru the whole facility, showed us the food, walked pooch to the door so he could see us leave). The facility was clean and has outdoor space (yay!), staff said dogs rotate out there every 30 min or so. Locations was fantastic, right downtown near our hotel (and overnight fee was much less than hotel pet fee!) and sights. Highly recommend!!
