- DonnaFeb 2, 2024Great place for lunch with dogs
My dog Wyeth and I found this awesome restaurant while exploring Shepherdstown WV. I loved the running water and the foliage. I felt like we were in a fairy forest. The staff was super nice and brought Wyeth a bowl of water and a snack. The food was great too! I had the BLT and it was perfect.

Dog friendly with options inside and out. Outdoor patio is a lush garden with natural shade. can’t wait to bring our pup back!
- MelissaJul 7, 2020First time bringing our dog
We've eaten here many times, but the first time we brought our dog. The staff was great and brought her a fresh bowl of water.

Only the second time we took our puppy out and this place was very comfortable. The food was great and the outside was awesome!!!
- CrissAug 16, 2019Great Grub and Perfect for Our Pooch
We were on our first vacation with our seven month old Boxer puppy. Given his size and rambunctiousness we were a bit concerned about finding a good spot to dine with him. Blue Moon was great, they had a spot for us where he could investigate without bothering anyone, the service was excellent, and the smoked turkey ruebens were awesome! We’ll definitely be back.
- AlexisMore than a year agogreat outdoor space
We always travel with our husky mix so finding places he’s welcome in is always appreciated, especially for being a larger sized dog. This space was perfect for him. My husband went into the restaurant first and double checked and they showed us to a table on their “patio”. It was completely shaded and our dog enjoyed laying in the wood chips. I had to ask the waiter to bring out water for him but other than they the staff was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely revisit there if it’s ever on our way again when we’re traveling.
- BeckyApr 7, 2018My favorite spring, summer, and fall place
This is my "go to" place when I want to relax with a great meal and have my dog tag along. Instead of a traditional patio setting, this place has tables on different levels of a large area with shady trees and a rushing stream (the town run) going through it. The staff has unfailingly been friendly and cheerful. Whenever it's my turn to pick a place to eat, it's the Blue Moon for me. In fact, I could go for a French Dip about now.
- CarolMore than a year agoVery dog friendly with good food
The Blue Moon has a lovely shaded patio where dogs are welcome. The staff were all great. Both times there the waiter brought a bowl of water for my dog without being asked. The menu is thoughtfully put together with good variety, and I enjoyed both my meals there. Please take the negative reviews with a grain of salt -- I'm betting the bad-tempered person is likely no longer there. Reservations might be a good idea on weekends (I went very early both times and got a table easily). Highly recommended. (Be sure to bring an id if you want beer or wine, regardless of age.)
- KurtMore than a year agoWouldn't let us sit outside because of rain clouds
Yesterday (Friday), I looked online for a restaurant that was pet friendly in Shepardstown, WV. I found the Blue Moon Café and called to ensure that was the case and the girl confirmed they had a very nice shaded seating area outside and pets were welcome on a leash. On Saturday my parents (who are from out of town and own the dog, Dobby) and I started our tour of historic Shepardstown. We had wandered around town for several hours and decided to get some lunch and something cold to drink, so to Blue Moon we went. When we got there two different employees informed us that since it might rain, they were not letting anyone sit outside. Understand, it was the 30th of July and sweltering hot and humid and they were not letting anyone sit outside because it might rain. Not only were we not welcome, but they rude and indifferent to the situation. They are most definitely not what I would call a pet friendly restaurant. And the staff members’ rude indifferent attitude embarrassed me as a West Virginian.
