Reviews
Visitors find Pepe's Cafe & Steakhouse to be very dog-friendly, with an outdoor patio, water bowls, and servers who greet dogs warmly. Some guests, however, felt their well-behaved dogs were not as welcome, and the food and drinks received mixed reviews.

- LeelooDec 14, 2023Very dog friendly and they have breakfast or happy hour
Several outside tables that are all dog friendly. All are shaded. Very good oysters and very popular breakfast stop.
- SeanMar 12, 2023Nice lunch spot away from Duval
Extremely dog friendly. Our server brought ice water and dog bowl to the table right away. Even brought her some bacon (after asking first).

We have taken our canine to Pepe’s several times for breakfast and lunch. Covered outside patio for dogs and their family. Our friendly waitress brought a dog bowl with iced water to the table and warmly greeted him. We have been at Pepe’s when each table outside had a dog. They were established in 1909, but are under new ownership in 2022.
Breakfast is excellent, they have daily French toast, daily bread, and other special items in addition to the menu. Fresh squeezed Orange juice is wonderful and also used in Mimosas. Lunch has a nice selection including oysters and sandwiches. Staff and visitors go out of their way to greet your dog. - BrianJun 2, 2021Good place to bring your dog, but...
First, let me say that I'm very appreciative of places that allow you to bring your pet.. there is a shaded outdoor area with fans, which is great for bringing the dog.. from a food and beverage perspective, however, this place is so so.. beer on tap was barely cool.. bloody Mary was watered down.... my steak was cooked very well, but covered in so much blue cheese that I had to scrape most of it off (and I LOVE blue cheese)..
My wife's seafood trio was very good, no complaints there

Great food, they made my dog feel welcome. The oysters are to die for and the margiritas are perfect.
- NancySep 15, 2019Went for dessert
Had a wonderful key lime pie. Apple crisp wasn't as good. They brought a water dish out for my dog. Very accommodating.
- MichelleJan 26, 2019Doesn't live up to the hype
The food was OK, nothing to write home about. We didn't feel that our dog, who was extremely well-behaved, was welcome at the restaurant at all. Perhaps the folks providing the glowing reviews are friends of the owners and regulars of the restaurant. We felt like we were given the cold shoulder. If I could do it over again, it would have been more fun to picnic instead.

We've been going to Pepe's for 20 years, the past 2 with our dog, Baxter. Incredibly dog friendly. Try the fresh fruit drinks--screwdriver, strawberry daiquiri. And don't forget to try the BEST key lime pie ever!

Great food even better people. My dog got treats, bacon, her own water bowl. The staff was fantastic! Reasonable prices. Great mustard pork bbq & hot fudge brownie ala mode. Sat under the napping cat...Billy bob!! Loved it!!!
- PamMore than a year agoIce water for the dogs on a hot day
Pepe's continues to be a great tradition, extending to hospitality for our two dogs. It was s very hot day and our girls were treated with a doggie bowl of iced water. There was a table large enough for them to crawl under and get shade.
Food is plentiful and good. Prices reasonable for Key West. Drinks are excellent.

Rustic feel, cats lounging in the roof canopies. Great staff brought water for the pup. Grouper and pulled pork were both fantastic. Inexpensive for Key West.
- @Tuco_the_ChiweenieMore than a year agoAmazing Food, No Problem with Dog
April 2014 MUST GO! We waited until the end of our trip to go here and it was the great. Walking up you might think I'm crazy with the dated exterior and laid back look but you really must go! Fresh juices in the drinks, no mixers=AMAZING. Starters we got Peel and Eat Shrimp which were the best we'd ever had, they season them some and they're great. Homemade cocktail Sauce to boot! Main Courses we had MahiMahi with Lemon Caper Sauce which came with mashed potatoes and choice of veg, we got Asparagus- All Amazing! Other entree was the Special Yellowtail Snapper which came with crab cakes on rice with asparagus and an Oscar sauce on top- delicious but portion size was huge. Wish we came earlier on our trip it was that good! They we're great with the dog bringing water with the Pepe's logo on it! Nice touch to make you feel comfortable.
- Joe Boxer (aka Cup of Joe)More than a year agoDon't just stop for breakfast.
Food and service were great. Many come for breakfast but don't forget to give the lunch or dinner specials a try. They were very accommodating to pups (bring water/treats/bacon from kitchen) and allowing good choice of seating in the courtyard. We actually had to stop them from giving too many treats! According to a new ordinance [Chapter 109 Dogs in Public Food Service Establishments] restaurants need to apply for a permit with “Code” at the city of Key West to allow dogs in their eatery. Many of the previous pet friendly places have done so, while others have not in protest. In KW fashion they may or may not honor the code. So, be sure to call ahead to see what they welcome.
