- MaggieApr 26, 2024The BEST dog Restaurant
Just had the best experience at Fred’s in old town San Diego. We were greeted at the podium and as soon as the hostess saw our dog she was thrilled, immediately offering treats and pets (with permission of course!) we were sat right away at our choice of table on the patio. Within a minute a fresh large bowl of cool water was brought for our pup. The dog menu is SO cute. Our pup sat in a chair at our table, I feel bad because we didn’t read that this was not allowed until later on but the server and hostess all didn’t mention it being a problem. The Cujo’s Carne was awesome and a great amount for $5. The human food & drinks were amazing too! We felt so cared for and our dog felt like a celebrity. This was our 1st dog restaurant outing ever, our dog can be a bit leash reactive, but it went amazing! The staff are all A+ here.
- LynnAug 9, 2023Great food, pet friendly patio
We visited Fred’s with our dachshund Pepper. They have tons of outdoor tables and provide water bowls. AND they even have a dog menu! Pepper gave it two paws up and us humans agree. Try the queso, it’s delicious!

- ElizabethJul 14, 2022Nice patio, dog friendly, great service
Very nice patio in Old Town San Diego, very dog friendly. They have dog menu and the service was great. We really enjoyed our lunch and our dog had a bowl of grilled chicken which he loved of course.

Came here with our 2 golden retrievers. We were provided with a water bowl and ordered the Snoopy’s Scramble for both of our pups. They loved their meals! All of the staff were super dog friendly and gave our dogs lots of attention. Overall a great place to dine with your dogs and I highly recommend!
- MarilynDec 5, 2021Friendly, and delicious
I came here with my hubby, mother -in- law and my pup. The service was friendly and there was no wait. We had a bean and cheese burrito, tacos mahi mahi and a chicken tostada. The portions were generous and delicious. The beans and rice were also yummy. They have a menu for dogs and my pup had the Cujo carne asada. It smelled so good and it was a large portion. I recommend this place for all those visiting Old Town, San Diego. One thing, parking is a bit difficult on weekends. Stay off the main drag and park on the residential streets.

- CatherineAug 8, 2020Awesome And Friendly
We visited Fred’s Mexican Cafe on a busy Saturday for late lunch with our two Great Dane puppies. We were seated on the patio at a nice big table. Our dogs were a little overwhelmed since it was their first time dining at a restaurant. However, they settled down and drank the quickly served dish of fresh water. The service was fast and friendly. The food was great. The atmosphere was upbeat. Everyone was kind to our dogs. We will be back with our dogs soon.
- TeresaJun 20, 2020Awesome Stop!
Food is amazing, their tortillas are phenomenal and their dog patio is for real. Definitely our new most favorite San Diego spot both including family and furry friends, and as a date night.

Baymax absolutly loved it and so did we. We went after a long day at the dog beach and baymax made even more friends at the restraint they were quick to bring him water, they had the cutest dog menu and he loved the carne. we humans also enjoyed our food and margs. To top off the great experience they had the cutest flower photo wall❤️🌸 Will be going back again
- CynthiaJul 22, 2019Good For Dogs
First visit, loved that they are dog friendly. They have a menu for the dogs, bring them water and foos in their own individual bowls. The food for humans is not great. We had the Queso Dip and Chips, that was exceptionally delicious. But our main dishes, two Chilaquiles plates and one California Burrito lacked so much flavor and authenticity. Great place to get a meal for your dog, not so much for the humans!
- TracyNov 24, 2018Best dog friendly place!
We recently went to old town had our dog looking for a dog friendly resteraunt the best we have ever been too!, offered us water for our pup right away...... great margaritas and tacos but also had a menu just for dogs. This helped us to enjoy our vacation even more will definitely go back,!!

The staff is friendly. The Food is delicious. Loved the environment. My pup had the steak from the puppy menu. It wasn’t expensive and he received a nice sized portion. He loved it! I definitely recommend.

It was a fun atmosphere at Fred's and dogs are allowed on the patio. There was spilled water and wet chips beneath our table which we did not want our dogs laying in. There is a dog menu and our dogs had the flank steak. They were given a lot and they enjoyed it! For the human food it was not that good. Not horrible but would not return.

- RichMore than a year agoRelaxing after beach
After a day at Dog's Beach. This was the place to go. When we got there we were seated in the patio, where our server brought a big bowl of water for our dogs. They handed us our menus. 1 for us and 1 for the dogs. This was a surprise. The fajitas are awesome and our dogs had Chicken and fries served to them in dog bowls. It would equal the price of a kids meal. The services was great and walking through Old Town after made the perfect end to our day.
