John Douangdara Dog Park

Furry friends of South Sioux City, NE, love visiting the John Douangdara Dog Park in Siouxland Freedom Park. This local recreation space is wonderful for pups to exercise, socialize, and explore off-leash while honoring the fallen city native and dog handler, Navy Seal John Douangdara. The park's amenities include separate areas for small and large pets, a shade shelter, trees and a dog water fountain. Visit Website

    Mud pit

Must drive down a dirt road to access. While it hadn't rained that much when we visited on a road trip the entire park was a mud pit. We take our dog to parks often and are used to adverse conditions in all kinds of weather, but this was ridiculous. Even the parking lot was a mud pit. The dogs/owners weren't friendly either. This is one we'll be skipping on future road trips.

A delightful exercise break plus a time to honor our heroes

A nicely maintained dog park with all the key amenities. Very spacious! Nicely maintained grass, shade trees, shade shelter, picnic tables, play fixtures, and water fountain. Very delightful, plus a time to honor our war heroes and dogs. Plan on extra time to visit Siouxland Freedom Park’s exact half-scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. that is made from the same granite from India as the wall in D.C. A great break for Fido plus a time to heal, reflect and pay tribute.
