Reviews
- BrandonJan 7, 2024Small dogs or big fee
They wanted $50 for a pet fee because my dog was over 35 lbs. They stuck me in the motel due to dog size and my frustration with the higher free with was very well decorated but not sound insulated. We heard people singing at 4am, others talking around 8am, etc.
- ShireeNov 27, 2023Emphatically pet friendly
It's almost as if the hosts are happier to see your dog than they are you. Couldn't be more pro dog. A wonderfully quirky and charming stay.
- LisetteNov 15, 2023Will stay again
The attention to details, the hospitality of the staff, the availability of gift store and restaurant in same area had my parents and I impressed. Our trip to NM was saved by this historic gem. We have alerted our friends about how amazing our night stay turned out to be and are considering a future stay.
- LynairOct 27, 2023Nostalgic Beauty
Such a great stop on our road trip! The themed rooms were delightful and perfect for our pup. We loved the quirkiness of this historical sight. They didn’t have much for the pup which is why I only gave it 4 bones. We loved our stay!
- TabithaAug 20, 2023Fun Place
Staff was super friendly. It's a cool place. Was pretty clean. Definitely a good stop for the night.
- CeciliaJul 30, 2023Nice stay
Restaurant connected to motel, bar also connected. Breakfast wasn't free but that's because it's a restaurant that serves awesome food. My service dog was a very good boy. Motel welcomed him. Yes rooms were small but I enjoyed this motel.
- AngelJul 26, 2023Fabulous Historic Spot
We loved our stay. Our dog had a great time too with friendly staff.
- PeggyJan 11, 2023Cool hotel
Right on the highway and rather poor parking. The decor and feeling in the hotel is great, but for active dogs not nearly enough space. Dogs were welcome though and people were friendly. Location in general was rather poor. Nice restaurant and souvenir store.
- SummerNov 11, 2022Fun & historic but a little cramped
The hotel itself is great with fun memorabilia. The room was clean and well-appointed but very small. Not too much of an issue for the humans, but the pup seemed to have a slight case of cabin fever and there weren’t too many attractive outside options for a walk. Worth a visit, but good to be prepared for a small space.
- LaralynAug 23, 2022CLEAN!
Accommodations were tiny (I’m talking sink faucets are in arms reach from the toilet!) but we didn’t mind since it was very clean & cute nostalgic decor & pup friendly. Bed was comfortable but could improve by having a choice of pillows with different loft as all were too firm for us both. Friendly staff! :)
- AnneAug 4, 2022Great stop
Everything was just great. Not mentioned in previous comments - walls and doors are nice and thick. Dogs did not hear people walking down halls.
- SheilaJul 20, 2022Good, but not great
We loved the welcoming staff and felt so grateful to be guests at the newly renovated dining room. Our pup was welcome too!!
- ChrisJun 9, 2022Great fun and Nostalgic
What a fun trip into the past! Room was Clean and historic. Our pup was welcome! I’m excited to see this site when all the renovations are completed!
- RobertApr 16, 2022Best stay ever!
We were welcomed along with our teacup poodle by the front desk stay. They immediately fell in love with our dog & called the restaurant staff & gift shop staff to meet her. We subsequently received great service in both. Wherever we walked in the hotel the staff made a fuss over the dog. Our room (Ronald Reagan Presidential Suite) was classically beautiful and spacious. The bathroom was the largest we have ever seen and quite beautiful. It belongs in the Hurst Castle! We were told that it was scheduled for some remodeling after we departed. Thanks again for a great stay, and we will be back.
- VeronikaApr 16, 2022Nice Stay But No Longer Pet Paradise
El Rancho is a beautiful, updated, kitschy hotel, but as the staff is diligently modernizing, the pet policies are getting more stringent. No longer are dogs allowed in the indoor restaurant, and though there is an outdoor patio, it's closed in colder months. The staff was accommodating with letting us takeout from the restaurant and eat on the benches outside, but this a far cry from earlier reviews touting a pet paradise. All in all, we had a great time, but lack of outdoor green space and the new policies made it challenging.
- LeeanneApr 9, 2022Limited
El Rancho was definitely interesting but very limited in the surrounding area if you need to walk your dog.
- SuzanneMar 5, 2022Dog friendly
The entire staff of extremely pet friendly and helpful. Cool old hotel. I would have given 5 bones but the bathrooms are extremely small. Unfortunately one of the particulars of booking at an iconic historic hotel.
- JohnFeb 24, 2022Cool hotel under renovation
The hotel is a vintage find. However as a pet owner, the area around the hotel is lacking. There’s no real grassy areas and much broken up concrete. The one small “lawn” by the hotel has a “keep pets off” sign.
- KellyJan 2, 2022Cool historical hotel
The lobby is cozy and beautifully decorated for Christmas! Lots of people with dogs.
- MelindaDec 19, 2021Perfect for quick overnight
Kitschy old hotel. Chose it because reviews said it was very dog friendly and cool/funky for quick stay. We could take our 40# dog to restaurant for breakfast and dinner. comfy bed, large room with lots of room and an additional sitting nook. Desk clerk kindly gave us a room with a balcony that was really like a small deck. Good for the pup. Bring earplugs though. Some people left their dogs alone in the room and they barked. We were glad we stayed here.
- MaryNov 15, 2021Dog Paradise
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here while traveling across I-40. I can’t imagine a more dog friendly place to stay! Our pooch was allowed in the ENTIRE hotel. Not just our room, but the indoor restaurant as well. He was just shy of 11 months during our stay. They we so kind even though he was a bit barky during dinner, so We decided to take our food to go and eat in our room to be polite to the other diners. A more nature dog would have been fine to stay! The next morning they were happy to see us again and wanted us to try again. Every employee was so kind and welcoming to us. We stayed in the Kirk Douglas room and it was a good size with plenty of space for a crate right next to the bed without being cramped. The only downside is that the sound proofing is minimal on the doors, so our pup could hear everyone who walked by and it made him an anxious sleeper. We plan on stopping here again on our way back home.
- ChipsSep 29, 2021Great Staff and Historic Hotel
We had a superb time at the El Rancho Hotel. It’s pet-friendly staff and even a grass area was superb. I received Halloween treats for my dog and we were even greeted w a text before we arrived. Kemberlee was such a great hostess who welcomed us and made us feel at home after a long drive. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
- LizAug 23, 2021Great place!
We loved the hotel! Our dogs were welcomed into the bar area. Our only complaint was the lack of a suitable area for our pooch to go to the bathroom. The staff was very friendly.
- DebbieAug 21, 2021Authentic Hotel
Small grass area for dogs in front. Dogs can go to restaurant and bar with you.
- CarlieJul 30, 2021Awesome Hotel, not for pets
Super cool hotel with amazing history but not the best for dogs. Little to no grass around the hotel, dog park is further than the 3 blocks. Only glass on property has signs to keep dogs off.
- ChristineJun 21, 2021Great But
We tired to cancel our booking and was refused due to the cancellation policy. So we drove late into the night arriving just before midnight only to be told the air conditioning was out and did I want a refund. Grrr so annoying, but it was a great hotel. That being said, you need to be trim to fit into the bathroom. The one in our room was tiny.
- RoyApr 10, 2021Great location and pet friendly!
Loved the hotel, our dog got a treat bag at check in
- BarbaraFeb 3, 2021Jackson at the El Rancho
Our dog Jackson had a nice time at the El Rancho. He actually stayed in the presidential suite. The bathroom was his favorite place for his bed as it was cozy and warm.
- MatthewNov 14, 2020Historic Hotel
The hotel is full of history, charm and very unique. Unfortunately, Americans were smaller (?) in the last century. I had trouble navigating the bathroom due to my height. Mattress was too soft. But I am glad I stayed as this building is a living museum. And every employee I came across was happy to serve us.
- ChristinaOct 10, 2020Dogs Allowed EVERYWHERE in Hotel
$25 fee. Upon arrival, my pup was greeted with a care package full of goodies. They are very clear that dogs aren’t to be left alone in the hotel, but DOGS ARE ALLOWED EVERYWHERE in the hotel! They let my pup in the restaurant AND the bar. *Inside*! I’ve never been to a restaurant that allowed my dog inside, as opposed to the patio outside. I don’t understand the low BringFido bone rating of this place — they literally let my dog eat at my table indoors! So glad we stopped here!
