  Not very clean & oh so loud

  We were hopeful this hotel would be nice. From the outside, things appeared newer and clean. Once inside the building, things went down hill. The hallways had carpeting that was very dirty. From wrappers off of food items to rocks, sand & debris lining the hallway. Seemed like a good vacuuming was needed. There was some kind of red jelly looking substance on the ceiling in our room. There were dirty hand towels in the bathroom as well as something in the bathtub that looked like sand (?).

  Unfortunately, the “dog park” area was so full of dog poop, it was difficult not to step in it while letting my dogs have a potty break. I ended up just walking the trail that went around the property with my dog, so that we could avoid stepping in the crap! There is an indoor waterpark at one end of this complex. Expect loud children running the hallways, even late into the night. If they are staying above your room, good luck getting sleep. The lady at the front desk was very nice. I would not recommend this hotel.

  We brought our little dog with us and it was perfect for one night. Didn't stink like a pet-friendly hotel often does.

  Unexpected excellence

  The suite was marvelous. Extremely clean and very large. The hospital next door was not an issue at all. Very quiet night. It is attached to a water park, which I didn't realize; even though we had a room right by the park, it was never a problem. Nice staff.

  Very pet friendly

  I was initially concerned as they put us on 4th floor, but we were right by the elevators that took us straight outside. An awesome pet area so I could let my dogs loose while we were there alone. Best pet situation we have had our whole trip.

  Weird hidden fee

  After we had already paid for our room, including the taxes and fees beyond the initial list price, we were told at the counter that there is yet another fee of about $10 because this place is "a resort" and has a "special resort tax." At what point did it become normal to, like, not just pay your business taxes and then sell your service, but instead to "pass on" these weird taxes? And to not even list them? Of course, by the time we had already paid for the room, taxes, and fees, and driven to the location, we were obligated to just pay whatever extra fees they wanted to "pass on" beyond the agreed upon price.

  Comfortable

  Very comfortable room in great condition. We haven’t stayed at a La Quinta in years and were pleasantly surprised by quality of this hotel. We were very far from an exit for walking the dogs which made it difficult. One of reasons I’ve always used Marriott properties is that they always place you near the exit for the dog walking area. Wyndham does not get the finer points of accommodating travelers with dogs.

  Phenomenal Place to Stay

  My dog (German Shepherd named Levi) and I are driving cross country since I was reassigned a new duty station. La Quinta was a last minute stop. It was very easy to book, staff was super nice and professional, they have a pet area for pets to chill and relieve themselves. Very cheap with good quality room decor and spacious. Suite was $62 with the $25 pet deposit equaling out to $87 total. Next door it has a water park that joined with the hotel which is awesome for the family passing time. If I could give it a 10 out of 10 I would.

  Noisy, difficult parking

  This hotel sits in a complex of about hotels and is part of an indoor water park as in you smell the chlorine in the first floor hallway. There were lots of kids running around (literally running) and the parking lot was so packed that the desk staff were discussing when to call police about having a vehicle towed that had parked in front of an exit door where there was a no parking designation. No real complaints with the room itself other than the noise from the kids running around. Plenty of room to walk dogs and lots of poop bag stations around the complex. If you are traveling in cold weather with kids and need a spot for them to burn energy you would likely give this 4-5 stars. If you are an old fart looking for rest you should look elsewhere.

  Great hotel to stay with your dogs!

  This hotel was great for us and our two larger dogs. The room was spacious, modern and clean. We were very comfortable here. We love the fenced-in dog yard too. We will stay here again!

  Staff was very nice

  The Rooms are not too big but we had everything we needed. The resort fee gives you access to the hot tub. The breakfast is basic. Perkins is right outside the front door if you want something more. Overall a nice stay.

  Not the greatest

  Traveling with our 2 Standard Poodles, we were having a difficult time find a dog friendly place to spend the night. The price was higher than we were hoping in Rapid City, but thought the La Quinta sounded good. Upon arrival into our room, we were surprised to see how few “extras” were available. It had a kitchen with a small mini fridge. But so small, it had barely enough space to put anything. We opted to keep our cooler in action. But we couldn’t refreeze out ice. No freezer compartment. Next surprise was no silverware…or dishes. Just empty cabinets. The electrical connections were not working properly so we failed to get a charge for our various electronics.

  The noise from the freeway (I-90) kept us awake and the bed was not very comfortable. In the morning, we headed to the breakfast buffet. It was dry cereal, a few assorted yogurts, white bread or bagel, some packages of pb and j and a waffle maker. The fruit was a dish of bruised apples. That’s it. I don’t remember leaving a review for any hotel stay before. We are typically Marriott people, and are usually very happy with our stays there. This hotel was dog and kid friendly, which we really appreciate but the noise was pretty loud; pretty late. One plus: a great, fenced-in dog relief area. Just need a little attention to the details that make your guests feel like you really care about them.

  Would stay again

  This property is near all of the NPS attractions, Badlands, Rushmore, Jewel and Wind Caves. Restaurants are nearby. Just wish there was more grass for the dog. Room was a king suite. It was clean and comfortable with plenty of room for our dog and us to relax. We are on a 3 week road trip and the extra room and couch were appreciated. We are on our way home and are staying there again tomorrow night.

  Nice facility, appears to be recently remodeled. Room was modern and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. They waived the pet fee for our small dog. Pet area is relatively small with artificial turf and no shade, you have to be creative if your dog wants to walk a ways.

  Great Location/Room/Staff

  Just off I-90 in Rapid City, this La Quinta has an attached water park. If dining at Sliders, which is adjacent to and accessible for, water park guests, is not for you, a Perkins in the complex offers a discount to guests. My Boykin Spaniel was petted by numerous staff during our two-night stay. There is an enclosed dog relief area at the north end of the motel.

  Very good

  Nice fenced in out door area for dogs to be off leash. Poop bags and garbage can to clean up after your pooch. Room was spacious and clean. Nice walking area also. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

  Watch where you walk though! Not all are clean up conscious. Our room was on 2nd floor, so not convenient to take dogs out overnight. But all in all a nice stay.

  Amazing if traveling with human kids

  We recently drove from FL to WA and stayed at 6 different hotels with our 2 pugs. This hotel has an amazing indoor water park that I’m sure is a blast for families but we just had the pups with us. The room was very nice except for one stain on the rug which the pups fixated on when we first arrived. The shower was the nicest of all 6 hotels on this trip. The relief area for the pups was gravel and Astro turf. Our girl is particular and needs real grass so we had to walk over a rocky area to get to some between the hotel and hwy. When we went to bed that night we could hear people walking above us but we had gone to bed fairly early. When we woke up we saw some black bugs on the ceiling which definitely weren’t there the day before. The front desk called them elder box bugs I think and said they had been unusually bad this year so I’m assuming they are like the love bugs we deal with in FL. The complimentary breakfast was the standard stuff.

  Perfect Stop

  We were passing through and found this place on BringFido. It was right off the highway, staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the place was very clean. The fenced dog area made it perfect for a quick off leash pit stop for our puppy too. Would stay there again in a heart beat.

  Good but opportunities for improvement

  The good: parking was great, there’s an exit right to the dog walking area, the rooms were nice and clean and exactly what I’ve come to expect from La Quinta. Breakfast was good. The not so good: there’s no grass for dog walking. They have a fenced in, faux grass area which is super nice until you see all the dog waste people haven’t picked up and didn’t look like the hotel had ever sprayed or cleaned it. We ended up walking the sidewalk trail to the next hotel which did have grass. Next time I would stay at the Residence Inn because they have grass, but this hotel was not bad.

  Comfortable lodging

  Check in was complicated and delayed by the paving process of the parking lot. The room was clean and above average. The bed was comfortable and we were surprised with the additional seating area and two flat screen televisions. Our lovely well-behaved pup received no special treatment by the staff. No treats, bags or anything. In fact the two bag holders next to the hotel remained empty during our stay. Overall would stay in La Quinta again.

  Great Location with a Pet Area

  This hotel was dog friendly and we were pleasantly surprised to see there was an enclosed area for the dogs to run free a little. What a great bonus. The location is convenient to the interstate and Mount Rushmore but if your dog is sensitive to noise, this may not be the best option as there is a water park attached with lots of kids running up and down the halls.

  Me, my husband and our two doggies stayed here for 2 nights on a road trip from Washington State. This place was easy to find, the room was clean, modern, and very comfortable. The room was quiet, and we slept very well. There was a very nice potty area for our dogs. The price was amazing too. We stayed in 6 different hotels on our road trip, and this was the best and most affordable. We would stay here again for sure.

  Fun place to stay!

  This la Quinta is attached to the indoor water park, so it was very busy and noisy but we didn’t mind, however may not be ideal if you have a dog that barks a lot at noises. We loved that there were plenty of places to eat within walking distance or to deliver. Front desk was very accommodating when we requested a first floor room and the room was amazing. Seemed to be almost new and very well maintained and modern!

  Best One Ever!!!!!

  We have been traveling with dogs since 2011. This is by far the best dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed. Super super clean, the fenced in pet area is the best ever. You are able to unleash your pet and let them roam in the area so they could do their business. Yes, there Is a lot of dog waste but that is not the fault of the hotel. That is the fault of the dog owners! Please pick up after your pet! In my opinion, all other hotels need to go to this La Quinta Inn to see how to have a dog friendly hotel for your pets!!!!!

  Nice clean place to sty with your fur babies

  Night staff was very friendly and property was clean, which is always great. Our room was very quiet, especially with amount of people in the hotel, however we did have a suite, so I am sure it was better than the standard room since there was no exit door in our bedroom.

  Nice room

  The room was very nice! Unfortunately the room had a conjoining door so I could hear a lot of noise from the people next to me, which put my dogs on edge until the neighbors went to sleep. They did have a nice fenced in area for the dogs to walk around and go potty.

  Dirty and bad service

  Granted, this was during the covid pandemic but this hotel was a mess. There was trash everywhere in the lobby, on the stairs, lots of dog poop in the “dog park.” Then we got to our room which had a toilet full of hair and the shower was yellow. When we complained they gave us free drink tickets (we definitely weren’t going to the bar during a pandemic). There is a water park attached to the second floor so it was really loud and crazy until about 1am. It was a horrible stay and we will never use La Quinta ever again.

  We were just there for a quick overnight stay. I was very pleased with the cleanliness and friendliness. They put us in a room right next to the door exiting to the dog potty area which was really convenient. Would definitely stay there again!

  The hotel was clean and very nice. They have a water park, restaurant and bar attached to the hotel. They also have a fenced in dog area which was great. It had a walkway for people, a artificial grass area and and area with small stones. What a nice surprise! I would stay there again

  Made reservations well in advanced for 3 nights. Arrived on Saturday. Beware of water park inside hotel. Lots of children, noisy and wet. We’re put on 4th floor. Cancelled after 1 night.

  Busy, busy, busy

  The hotel was nice but as a dog owner I was not comfortable. It is indeed a resort, hence the resort fee, but it is a busy hotel. The dog area is nice and big. The hotel is accommodating. I have 5 small dogs, 1 that swears she's in charge and very observant. She was restless (so I was restless) with all the people traffic including the kid upstairs that was running back and forth for hours. We are grateful to La Quinta and did talk to the front desk to ask for forgiveness for our barking dog. They were understanding. We left very early in the morning.

  Wow! Great Place to Stay.

  The hotel has recently been renovated and all I have to say is WOW!

  The room was wonderful and spacious and clean, large bathroom, great ambiance...and extremely dog friendly! We will definitely be back when passing through again. Can't say enough good things about the place.

  Good family place

  We arrived here after 7 during a very bad thunderstorm. The staff were nice. The facility was worn and dated and slightly not as clean as I like but it was not gross. If you have kids they will love the water park although they can't use it during storms. They have a nice area for dogs that is fenced with some fake grass and gravel so that you can just let your dogs off their leash. There are poop bags provided. There are lots of kids at this hotel but we were lucky and had parents who were responsible and kept their kids quiet. The breakfast is the normal stuff but certainly reasonable. There is a nice pizza place in the hotel as well as a Starbucks and bar. They give you a free drink coupon for a wine, well drink, or beer but make sure you check your receipt because my husband didn't and he paid for our pizza when I was upstairs and they charged him for his beer. The bathroom is a decent size but the water pressure is lacking somewhat. They were in the process of painting the interior of the hotel including rooms so there was a smell of paint but it was not bad. The parking is a little competitive because there's 3 different hotels there. There is also a Perkins restaurant in the lot. The elevators are a bit rickety but as long as you're not faint of heart you should be fine.
