    Beautiful location with limitations

The dogs enjoyed the dunes and the beach. Dogs were not allowed in the visitor center, or like others have said the wildlife areas.

Go to the Beach not the Wildlife refuge.

I don't get the poor ratings. THis is the BEST BEACH I've ever been at with our dog. It was deserted. Yes, the dog can't go on the wildlife side of the refuge, but if you want a place for your dog to run, you have miles and miles of nearly deserted beach for your dog to enjoy.

    not allowed at beach

No dogs allowed on the west side of 12, but they can go across the highway to the beach.

    Don't bring Fido

Although their .gov website says dogs are allowed at Pea Island, we drove 40 minutes only to discover dogs are not allowed on wildlife trails. Huge bummer. There are plenty of other places nearby that are dog-friendly. Try those instead.

    Not very pet friendly

We drove through the area today hoping for a long walk with our dog only to discover that the island has many, many regulations. Dogs are not allowed on any of the trails where you can view the wildlife. It appears they are only allowed on the dunes but there are not many legal parking places by which to access the dunes. Big disappointment.
