  Nice location, NOT hard to find...

  As a long-term resident of Fuquay-Varina, I love that we have a dog park. It's divided for large and small dogs, and both sides have fresh water fountains (although they do freeze up in the winter). The park is maintained well, and the town provides poop bags at 3 stations, one in the parking area and one in each side. The biggest challenge seems to be the people who ignore their dog's leavings and think it's someone else's job.

  Basic but good!

  This is a basic and average sized dog park. It has high fences and provides the usual accomadations such as water fountains, benches, poop bags and trash cans. There's more than enough room for plenty of dogs to play and explore while still being in sight at all times. The location, while hard to find, is perfect for a dog park; secluded enough to be far away from traffic yet close enough to town that it's not unreasonable to go often. This was such a smart addition to the town with so many new apartment complexes being built and it seems that since it's been built it's been well maintained. Overall a great park. There are two things that prevent it from getting a 5 star review are the seemingly large amount of copperheads I've seen while visiting(I've seen three and have visited this park maybe 20 times) and the lack of play equipment I've seen at other parks such as ramps and hoops to jump through. Obviously the snake issue is more of a wooded area in NC rather than a dog park problem but u still think it's worth mentioning so that you can keep an eye out!

  A fair attempt, yet good a start

  With great potential, this tucked-away location, though a ball-toss from downtown, is not easy to find without a basic knowledge of the surrounding area or some persistence (2 bones). While advertised as 8 acres, either there is a misplaced decimal point or it is only 10% developed (1 bone). I am estimating it won't be long before the residential streets are lined with "No Parking" signs as the number of parking spaces is quite limited (1 bone). While there is ample area within the two fenced areas (one for large, 30+ lb, and one for smaller, <30lb dogs) (4 bones), the oversight of a bottom tension wire (1 bone) lends itself to concern for this owner of a dog that would readily seek escape by squeezing under the fence fabric. This is compounded by irregular ground surfaces at places where uncompacted mulch and soil has been pushed up to fill gaps (6-8 inches) that is easily dug through and over time, unless aggressively maintained, will wash out due to rainwater run-off (1 bone). The larger breed area is surrounded by 6-ft chainlink which for jumpers/climbers is a huge advantage over the more popular 4-ft high fences (5 bones). Bio-degradeble bags for clean-up (5 bones) and waste cans for disposal (5 bones) are provided as are water fountains for refreshment (5bones). Overall a good start and hopefully, with funding, shortcomings can be easily addressed at this location and incorporated into design of future locations by the Town. In the meantime, check the perimeter closely before allowing Fido off-leash freedom.

  Hard to locate

  I had to ask the local mail delivery man where this park was as there was not a single identification sign. When I did finally locate this park, it has not begun to have any dogs there yet. I see only a clearing. I think that when and if this park is going to be ready, then they should post it. We ( myself and 3 dogs ) were quite disappointed
