- Mr. and Mrs.Mar 29, 2024Not Very Dog Friendly
We camped here for the weekend and although dogs are allowed, the rangers made it very clear dogs are really only allowed on our campsite and on the nature walk. The walk is nice, but our golden LOVES the water. Bummer because we also wanted some time in the beach. A local told us you will be fined for bringing them on, but can try to let them out after sunset when the rangers have done their final rounds.

this is not a dog friendly area, they don’t let you go to the beach, you can do the trail only which is not so much fun , it’s hot and my dog got warm I had to put water that I had with me on his head. I wished they let digs in the beach , with this case not worth it . Destin is definitely not a dog friendly area and they need to look their rules again cause I won’t travel again with my dig to this area

$6 to get in. The Nature Trail is a little harder to find. Go past the initial parking area (on left) and take a right towards the old radar post. The trail starts at the little playground. It’s less than a mile of a sand trail. There is a short cut if you don’t want to go as far. There are benches to rest. You need your own water. Dogs are not allowed anywhere else. Not in the bathroom areas, beach, pavilions……. We had a nice hike and Tess enjoyed herself.

We had fun I went in December. It was a cold and rainy day. My dog loved it and that is all that matters. Great for a short hike or walk. Beautiful view too! Good exercise for like 45 min and the trail had information about every plant. I enjoyed it!

Yes you can bring your dog on the trail. Not the beach. And forget about trying to go during the summer. It's blazing hot on the nature trail with no shade trees due to the flat dry landscape. Our pup quickly ran out of steam and we left after only 10 minutes. Would not return unless it was much cooler out. You pay to enter the park so consider that too before going.
- EikeNov 29, 2019No dogs allowed?
Wanted to enter the park and we’re told dogs are not allowed. No idea if this is seasonal or a permanent change just made.

The Henderson Beach State Park nature trail is approximately 1 mile long, well-maintained and has several benches along the route tucked under shade trees. It starts at the backside of the children’s playground and has some hills and a few stairs on some decking about halfway through. Waste bags are provided at the start of the trail but there are no water stations so be sure to bring your own.

It costs $6 to get in. I was holding 1 dog on my lap (I was a passenger) and they told us before we paid that we could not take dogs on the beach. They even gave her a biscuit. The walking nature trail was nice. Path is sandy most of the way. A few steps and a little hilly here and there. We enjoyed it with our 4 dogs. There was a small playground at the beginning of the trail and a few benches along the way.

No dogs on the beach, but that is only posted right as you go onto the beach, so no warning either. :(
