Super dog friendly! Modifiable short hike for you and your four-legged friend!

We had a great time visiting The Blowing Rock. My dog and I entered the front door and there was a cat by the front desk that immediately caught his attention, but he isn't cat reactive, so he quickly refocused. The lady at the desk asked if he was allowed to have treats, and offered them as she went over the information on the property. Know your dogs limitations in regards to cats and other dogs, as the paths are narrow and the gift store entry is tight. My dog is not reactive, and we went on a windy weekday afternoon, so it was pretty relaxed and enjoyable. I think we saw about two groups of individuals the whole time. On a busy day during the best times of year to visit, I could see this being a tight fit for a dog that is not great on a leash. I would suggest using a short lead or traffic lead in these situations. I would also suggest having two points of contact for safety purposes, as there is a steep drop-off. The location has a few different ways to modify your "hike" as there are different layers of the trail/bridges you can take. For older dogs, or individuals with injuries/limitations, you can walk on the flat path without much effort. There are also spots to sit down. The views were gorgeous and even on a super windy day, we had a lot of fun. Louie gives The Blowing Rock 5 bones! We will be back to visit again!

    Beautiful Views

Staff provided dog treats when we paid admission ($9 for adults). There were water bowls throughout, most with clean water. Very dog friendly. Some pathways were narrow so a dog with leash manners would do better as it was pretty crowded when we went.

    Beautiful Views!

We enjoyed our visit to Blowing Rock. It has some tight spaces when maneuvering dogs past one another. But, it was well worth it! Amazing views! They even had treats for dogs when you pay to get in! loved it!

    Very Dog Friendly

Beautiful view and nice area to look over the mountains. Leashed dogs are allowed in the gift shop and overlook but not the photo museum. My dog enjoyed climbing on the rocks. There was a cat who lived there but ignored me and my dog. Go on a clear day for best views!

    Great views, short hike

The trails and gift shops are leashed dog friendly. Be careful of the cliffs, which are 3 thousand feet above the Johns River Gorge! There are resident cats there so keep an eye out. Adult entry fee is $7. Don’t waste your quarters on the viewing machine- the lens are not that great- bring your own binoculars! The Blowing Rock got its name from the way the wind flumes uphill here, prompting the Ripley’s Believe It or Not folks to say snow falls up here... there is a legend that a Chickasaw chief hid his daughter here to keep a white man from her. While there, a Cherokee man met and fell in love with her. One day, he saw a smoke signal in the sky- it was an urgent message from his tribe. He was torn between this and the pleads of the maiden not to leave her, so he jumped from The Blowing Rock into the gorge below. The grief-stricken maiden wept at the rock and prayed to the Great Spirit. Finally, one day the wind blew hard and her love blew up from the gorge below and into her arms.
