Easy to find with an ample parking lot.
🚽 Port-a-potty accommodations.
🛝There is a beautiful playground near the parking lot.
The staircase to the beach is a bit of a climb, but the lake is right there so you don’t have to walk too far through the sand to the hit water.
🏖️Beach is sloped and small (~200 yards) from erosion, but it makes for shallow water great for the dogs and warmer too!
🚮Very well maintained Beach there were trash receptacles near the parking lot and the beach was clean. There was a couple other dogs there but we were spaced out. The rules are that dogs are to be leashed, but the other dogs we saw were not on a leash but stuck with their families. Only when the dogs were in close proximity to other families, I saw them get leashed. They didn’t bother us so we were fine with it. My dog is not a water dog by any means, she loves to lay in the sand and watch the water wash up on the sand.
🚫🛜 I have Verizon cellular service and I had no service while there, but I was glad to be off the grid for awhile and focus on enjoying time with my family. We will definitely be back! - AnnaOct 10, 2022Not Off-Leash
Small beach and not off-leash friendly. There were not a lot of people there when we went so we walked down the beach then played frisbee with her “E-Leash”. I had no one say anything to me but knock on wood.
- JoelSep 9, 2022Love it
We had a blast today. I gently helped poochie do some swimming, and then just chased her around in the sand when I figured she was ready for something more fun for her.
I love that they provide the bags, and there are even lifeguards on the beach. Amazing for a free activity. Having to be leashed at all times is a bit of a downer, but nothing we couldn't overcome with our retractable leash. Unfortunately, I jammed the springs and had to take her whole collar off when I went to put her in the car.
Four and a half bones rounded up to five.

So surprised to see how much beach there was to explore. Owners and dogs were very well behaved and the sandy beach extends far out into the water.
- JohnJul 30, 2021Great time for the kids and the dogs!
We had a blast at Hagar Beach! It's on the smaller side, but that is a plus to us. The kids and the dogs both had a great time. Thankfully all of the dogs were leashed and everyone was cool with dogs being there.
- SarahJul 27, 2021Our pup had a BLAST.
Nice, clean beach. several steps to get down and back up to parking lot. lots of dogs, most on leash. Our pup loved it, so did his humans.
- BarbaraJul 4, 2021Loved this little beach
This little beach area was very nice and clean. A little busy due to the holiday weekend but everyone was good about their dogs and space. I only wish we could have left them off leash to run and swim a little.
- RobJul 12, 2019Shallow water great for playing in water
Secluded parking, long stairs covered in thick trees makes for a pretty scene. The water is shallower with a gentler slope away from Hagar beach than many Lake Michigan beaches. Also means the water gets warmer and a nice turquoise in the summer. For my elderly mother, the extremely long staircase is an easier walk than the dog beaches at Michigan City because this one requires no long slopes in sand to get to the beach.
Only issue is for those who like long dog walks, the erode beach means this is only ~200 yards total.
- ChristyJul 4, 2019Nice beach!
Nice beach to let dogs swim! Although sign says leashed.. many had their dog off leash, including us. Only saw 1 aggressive dog & owner took care of it by leashing.
Because of all the rain the beach isn’t as big as it was in past years & there are limbs & a little debris but overall it’s a great place to spend with your fur baby! - BradJun 29, 2019Terrible beach
Beach is littered with crap everywhere. No one leashes their dogs like the rule says. Let’s dogs run up on yours. No safe for dogs or people. Would never recommend.
- JamieAug 27, 2018Great beach to walk with dog!
This was a great beach for us to bring our dog to for the first time. The stairs are a little terrifying, but the beach was very scenic and roomy. There are better beaches in st. Joe's, but not any you can bring your dog to. This was a good option for us!

- GregMore than a year agoGreat Place for your Best Friend
Great Place to stop and let your best friend romp and play. Beautiful sandy beach were you can run and swim with your best friend. I live in Tennessee now but always look forward to stopping at Hagar Beach when back home in South Bend, Indiana.

Nice parking lot. Not a lot of stairs down and the water is close. Our dogs love it!
