Heaps Peak Arboretum near Lake Arrowhead

Nice and dog friendly spot for a short afternoon walk before dinner. Well maintained and a lot info about plants. The path goes in a circle and all way is well shaded. There is a big parking lot at the entrance. The visit is free but you have to display the Adventure Pass when you park.

    Improved!!!

My last review mentioned that there were no separate yards for small and large dogs. That’s no longer the case!!!

There are now separate areas (both fully inclosed) for small dogs and large dogs. The two separate areas are also surrounded by a very tall fence, but only on three sides. Down the road about 500 ft is a playground with restrooms.

There are poop stations, but no water. BYOB of it.

    Lots of potential but...

We are part timers and we were excited to have a dog bark nearby. However, there are no arrangements for segregating dogs by size and at the time we dropped in, there were two large and angry pit bulls in the compound. The owner was really nice, but even he said our Pug and his dogs weren’t a good mix so we waited until he left.

A better option at this point is Lake Arrowhead Village, which has poop bags, AstroTurf and water bowls at several shops.

    Wrong address, great park

The park is actually located at Mackay Park across from the marina. It's fantastic!!

    Lack of maintenance

We love going to this park as does our dog. However it has become increasingly unkempt. There are no poop bags, the fence is loose and damaged in several places and dogs can easily get under it, the bark on the ground is largely worn away and some of the trees planted are dying

We are bringing our own bags and cleaning up each morning but it is becoming overwhelming.

    Three bones

It's nice to have a dog park close by but this one is small and not segregated so big and small dogs are all in one fenced area. Our dog is very social but if you have small dogs who are afraid of bigger dogs, this park would not be a good choice.
Also, the park does not have any water source so be sure to bring your own water bowl and water.
But I gave this park an A for effort as it is fenced, has places to sit for the dog parents and the middle of the park has large rocks and small tunnels for the dogs to play around.

    Not fully fenced

I see fences on only 3 sides. Fences are not flush to the ground... Yeah, Snoopy took less than 5 minutes to slip under the fence and take off down the road. With the right construction... Awesome dog park... Will be 10 bones up :-)
