The dog park seems not to be maintained any longer. Part of the fence has been knocked over, the large gate does not close/latch and the property is overrun by grass, weeds and fallen tree branches.

not many dogs, taller and more vegetation than what I like
- NicolleAug. 13, 2021No pond and short fence
If you have a jumper do not bring your dog here or it will run off. 3 ft fence is all that is keeping dogs in this runned down place. The pond is also not accessible. Room to run though.

This is a great little dog park to take your dogs! There’s minimal grass here but there’s plenty of space for the dogs to run.

EVen with the mentioned storm damage, our dogs enjoyed it. Our puppy loved exploring the terrain, and our older dog strolled around exploring the “nooks and crannies.”

*after hurricane Florence this dog park has lost its pond and was forced to downsize. Its still a Great dog park! Its not the same description but still has lots of shade! Bring your own waste bags & water for your pup. Can be a little hard to find the dog park area in the park, no sign but good parking. I posted a pic below
- SuzanneOct. 23, 2018McLeod dog park is REOPENED as of January 2019
The city was able to remove the ruined building and has erected a temporary plastic fence along what used to be the shoreline of the pond. The new sign (posted below) indicates that Florence plans to build two new dog parks, but the current one at McLeod will remain open until the new ones are built.

People were parked there a couple of times and looked very suspicious of doing something illegal without having dogs with them. A cop patrols the area so that tells you something and located near apartments and trailer park that seems very shady. Did not feel safe there even with husband so we left. The area is not kept up and just looks like pond could have debris in it not safe for dogs. The building and grounds looked really dirty . Didn’t even get out our car because the park is located in very back where nobody could see if someone tried to commit crime against you or whatever so I would definitely say Heck No to going to this place !!!!

Only wish it looked half as nice as the picture. Overgrown with weeds and upkeep of buliding is lacking.
- J FergusonMore than a year agoGreat dog park!
Lots of bushes and trees and things to explore. The pond is great and vast. Only gave it a 4 because it could be kept up better with the tree branches all over. Gazebo is a little dirty. Very sandy, but multiple benches for people to sit. My doggie had a great time!

Being a travel nurse it is really important for me to find somewhere that makes my dog and I both happy. McLeod dog park provides adequate shade for me to relax while my Boykin Spaniel swims in the pond. Be prepared with a towel or seat cover for your car because the park is sandy. Her happiness is my happiness and she loves this place!
