A must do but bring water!

Beautiful place to walk around but june-july is very hot. The pups are allowed almost everywhere except inside the buildings but they also do their presentations outside which is great. We learned a lot and took turns who goes inside the building, not a big deal. There are plenty of trees to hide for shade and to walk but we left around noon because of the brutal heat. make sure to bring lots of ice water! Maybe around fall will be perfect!

    A must!

We absolutely loved walking around! The girls loved the diversity and all the sniff spots! A must do if in the area.

    Good for walking

Very serious about no dogs on the historical properties- even the outside portions, which was frustrating because they have wonderful actor portrayals that I couldn’t get close enough to hear. Only service dogs allowed on the shuttle bus, and the walking path was closed and there really no other way to safely walk from the Visitors Center to the historic area.

    Great day

Plenty of places to walk around and explore! Dogs aren't allowed inside the historic buildings but we still found plenty to do. Every couple blocks down the main street (duke of gloucester) they had a water bowl by one of the front doors. Dogs are allowed in the visitor's center and on the shuttle buses.

    Historical

We didn’t go into the visitors center but we walked down the historical trail into colonial Williamsburg many houses to see. We also saw sheep and horses. Then after walking thru it lead to downtown. We didn’t get a whole ton of info but we also walked around for free. But there are signs outside some buildings.

    Historic Puppy Friendly

The Historic area is very dog friendly. No dogs are allowed in the historic buildings, but everyone of the actors loved the dogs. Some even had treats in their aprons. They asked before giving to our puppy. Beautiful area! Our puppy saw a horse for the first time!

    Dog friendly

Pets aren’t allowed in the buildings but Murphy was welcomed on the streets and lawns. We watched the outdoor events and ate at the Merchant Square. The Saturday morning farmer’s market was full
of 4-legged babies. He seemed to love all the people and scenery.

    Puppy's Favorite Vacation

We picked Williamsburg based on what I had read about dog friendly places. All true. Nash loved walking the historic streets of town and greeting all the friendly folks. Dogs can ride the shuttle from the visitor's center and around town. Patio dining was just barely getting going again after covid but we found a shady spot with some dog water. Sticks - there were so many good sticks to fetch.

    They Will Sleep!

Lots of walking but lots of shady paths and grassy areas. They can’t go into the buildings or history recreation areas but they can walk the main thoroughfares. Just remember to bring lots of water and check their little pads. Those bricks can get hot!

It is a great place to bring your little one!! 🐶

I stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge and it was pet-friendly for a $50 a night fee (which was cheaper than a pet hotel) and the streets of Colonial Williamsburg are free for your pet and so is the shuttle. The only things that are not pet-friendly are the buildings (because they are historic). All in all this is a great place for you, your family and you pet!
