    Smelly

The space is split for big vs small groups or dogs. The smaller area is below the road and smells strongly of exhaust from the cars in traffic. It gave me a headache.

    Best Dog Park on UWS

Firstly the photos attached to this link are not the photos of the 72nd street dog run they are photos of 83rd st.
I have been taking my Golden here for the past 5 years, it's the best dog run on the UWS. The dog groups at this run during the day are fine the dog walkers control the dogs better than most owners. A lot more dogs get into fights on the weekends when the owners come and have no idea how to control their own dogs!!! I see it and know a lot of dogs by name. Other than that this is an awesome dog park. I now live in the Suburbs and we adventure out when ever we are in the city.

    too many dogs

I have been down there a few times and there is a puppy pals play group that brings like 20+ dogs at a time about 3-4 times a week. Some of their dogs are aggressive and troublesome. I have seen one escape from the enclosure and run through the park finally capturing it, I believe it was a sheba Inu. Anyway, its good when that play group is not there.

    Clean Dog Run & Park

This weekend I took my 6 month old puppy there and her father whom is about 2 years old. They both of them had such a wonderful time. My experience as an owner was pleasant as well. The area was clean and everyone was friendly. The ground was gravel which stayed cool during the day and it was a hot day (96 degrees) but the area had plenty of shade and a water hose with water bowl and toys where also provided as well as plenty of seating for owners. My dog was free to run and play in the gated area. The park also has a section for BIG Dogs and a section for small dogs. I will be bringing my dog there again.

    Friendly place

I live upstate NY and travel to NYC on weekends and love the dog park. I've met so many nice people and dogs. The dog park feels like a small town inside NYC. Love it.
