We were in Deadwood on a road trip and took them here to burn off a little energy before hitting the road again. Wear secure shoes, it is on a hill built against an old gold mine. The views are pretty nice and although it's a small area, it's on a hill so that helps with some exercise, too. When you drive into the concrete slab that is the parking lot, to the left is some fencing. Go up into the park that way. You'll need your own water if you plan to stay a bit and it isn't shady, so please plan accordingly. We happened to have everything with us already.

It is fenced in which is always appreciated! There is only one picnic table for human companions and there isn’t a drinking water source. Seems to be built on top of an old industrial site? A little hard to find for out of towners.

I live in Lead and recently got a puppy. This place was perfect for a quick little romp in the grass as our yard is all rock. There are poop bags but the water wasn’t working. Beautiful pics of your pup can be taken in front of the Homestake Open Cut Goldmine. Perfect for visitors and locals alike! I met quite a few people and dogs when we were there. Great socialization for my little girl! Thanks city of a Lead!!

This was a lovely little dog park (securely fenced in) with a nice steep hill for the dogs and a fantastic view for the humans. Nothing fancy in the facilities here, but they were well maintained and had a water source, poop bag dispenser and picnic table. My extremely energetic golden retriever had no end of fun racing up and down the steep hill the park is set on.
As an aside, the reviewer who called it a “basketball court without goals,” is describing the dog park PARKING LOT. The entry to the park itself is on the left hand side of the parking lot. Just follow the fenced-in walkway to the gate at the top. - TomMar 12, 2018Securely fenced in dog park
There are two fenced in dog parks in the Black Hills, one in Spearfish and in Lead. The park in Lead is on the side of a hill providing a good workout for dogs and their handlers. Bring your own poop bags and water and dish. Picnic table was at the bottom of the hill. If it is muddy, bring towels for your dog’s paws and legs. A single entry/exit gate - no double entry set up so be alert if there are other dogs coming and going.

We stopped here on our way out of town, not knowing what to expect after reading the other review on here, and were pleasantly surprised! The slab of concrete they are talking about is the parking lot, not the dog park. If you go up the hill you will come to the fenced area. It's a pretty decent size on a hill, and has a picnic table at the top of the hill. We even saw some deer on the other side of the fence. We will definitely stop by on our way back.

Is this a dog park?? No.. It is a slab of concrete between a house and business that is not even fenced in.. No grass. It looks like a basketball court without goals. I can't imagine and locals taking their pets there!
