Only 20 mins from Palm Springs. Leashed dog friendly, easy hike follows the wash, as well as a more strenuous loop hike. Pleasant park area with ponds that your mutt will of course want to try and jump into! We went in November and temperature was in the high 60's in the morning. Great views up and down the valley with snow capped San Gorgonio in the distance.

This hike travels part of the Pacific Crest Trail as it climbs out of Whitewater canyon. It is a moderately strenuous climb, but not very long. The trail is rocky and narrow. If your dog has tender feet and if it is hot, it couldbe a problem. Spotted a smart hiker with booties on their dog. It was 78F when we hiked and that was perfect. The views are beautiful from the top of the ridge. The river is a huge bonus - our dogs appreciated the dip before and after the hike. The visitors center area is another plus- restrooms, a monitored parking lot, maps and a shaded picnic area. The center itself is currently closed due to the pandemic, but the rest is open.

Drive back into the whitewater preserve to the river for a good place for dogs to cool off & wade in the water. Slow moving, clean creek. In spring/summer go early in the morning bc it gets HOT & the walk to/from the river can burn dogs feet. plenty of room along river to find space away from anyone else.
