Otsego Lake State Park

Otsego Lake State Park in Gaylord, MI, is shaded with large oak, maple, and pine trees. The pet-friendly park encompasses 62 acres and offers a great spot for Fido to jump in the water. Please note this area can be found walking down a series of steps and works best for a quick cool as there are no rest areas. You can also access the Iron Belle Trail from this location. Great for swimming!

I couldn’t find the pet area after driving around, so I went to the area by the bathrooms. The beach was nice and the water was great. I think I may have been around the no pet zone, but it wasn’t clear. I wish they had a pet zone around the beach area.

Great Lake small place for dogs

water is clear shallow and warm. there is no beach just stairs into the water. we had a good time but beware our dog came home with a leach on his paw from playing in the rocks.

    Works in a pinch

Love the Gaylord area and Otsego State Park. My husband and I took our dog for a beach day looking to catch some sunshine and a swim with our husky mutt. The good news is, we got the swim! The dog friendly lake access area is at the most Northern end of the campground, off of a trail that begins at the main beach by the beach concessions/bathroom. It’s a nice walk to the North end, and you’ll see a sign that says “pet beach area” with a staircase leading you down to the water. I’m not sure if it was just the high water levels that Michigan is experiencing this summer, or if this is always the case, but there was zero beach. The stairs led directly into the water (with maybe about a 10’ x 5’ patch of dirt where you can set your things), and that is all. If you are there to swim and have a dog that loves the water, this spot works in a pinch, but if you’re looking for a place to lay out and chill between swims, look elsewhere as there is no sandy place to lay and the stairs/dirt area is 100% in the shade.
