This was a great place to take our pup. Some reviews made it seem like it would be difficult to find, but we took Washington until it dead ends at a small parking lot. Follow the walking trail to the stairs that lead. to the beach. Any construction that may have been happening on the stairs referenced in other reviews is completed. We had no issues and saw lots of dog friends.

Fabulous walk with our dog here but the directions are way off. Look for Monroe street and Dunes drive. There is a parking area on Dunes Dr. and an easy walk to the beach. We walked all the way to the pier and lighthouse and our pup enjoyed jumping in the water along the way. He was exhausted afterwards and took a nap while we had a beautiful lunch at Bluefish in Manistee, which allows dogs on their outdoor seating area in back of the restaurant.
- JillianJul 21, 2021Wonderful Dog Beach!
Plenty of space to sit, walk, run and swim! Quiet and secluded. Just a short drive from downtown Manistee. There is a short concrete walk followed by a boardwalk and stairs. Stairs have been reconstructed from erosion in 2020. Easy access!

Leashes are NOT optional. Many dogs led to a fight while I was there. Not good.

Nice easy trail to beach. When you get to the look-out deck and steps at the end they are washed out and not safe. If you are willing to jump over railing you can climb down sand dune to beach. It was a bit trickier for us 60 year olds to climb back up. Beach was nice and peaceful this time of year.
- AmyJul 2, 2020Couldn’t Figure Out How To Get Down To The Beach
The access at the bottom of the stairs is barricaded and it’s a 6 foot drop off - not like a hill. You would have to jump. I don’t think my dog or I would have made it down or back up again. Some people were on the beach - not sure how they got there. Maybe there is a path we couldn’t find.

The boardwalk to the water is wonderful and shaded. About 100 yards. But, the steps down to the water have been washed away. You and your dog can climb down and back up again, but be prepared for this. It’s about 5 foot down without stairs. Lots of shade when you
- JohnJul 8, 2019Long beach
This is the rare Lake Michigan dog beach that is not crowded or tiny, and leashes are optional. Like a lot of Lake Michigan beaches in Michigan, there is not much actual beach, but there is enough to walk on, and you can walk a long way, as it is a long beach.
- ElieseJun 18, 2018A large secluded dog beach where they can run!
This was a great area to take the dogs to run and play in the sand and water! It is nice and secluded, plus it is a large area of beach!!!
