    What a great find

This is a Maine State Park. Non Maine resident is $4; worth every dollar. Beautiful views, quiet, wide trails, plenty of benches to enjoy the views AND double swings to just sit and relax. My dog Jax and I had a great day and enjoyed it immensely! Thank you to the State of Maine!! ❤️🦞

    Beautiful

This is a state park. As many stated, parking is limited. $3 per person entry fee and the dogs are to stay on a leash.

    Scenic and easy hik

This is a fun place to bring your dog - park and walk around the island if you want. Paths are well kept, lots of water entry for your water loving dogs. Not a ton of parking.

    What a cool place!

Nothing beats walking through a beautiful forest with the ocean alongside. This island is super cute and the trails are mostly flat and very easy. There are a few spots with water access. There's even a little fairy village! The only downside is the parking is super limited so when it's full you have to go back over the causeway to park on a side street. Small per person fee to park on the island.

Any Trip to Maine Deserves a Trip to Mackworth

My dog isn't too sure about city living. Sidewalks in Portland intrigue him, but potty break on a street? NEVER. Someone recommended Mackworth Island to us a year ago. We are so thankful. The groomed paths circle the island with trash cans at the trail's beginning. Don't be that person and pick up after your dog. A lot don't seem to do it when we've been, which is a shame.

The trail is 1.25 miles around. It's pretty level. To get to one of the beach areas, you will need to go down a bank, stairs, or rocks. I recommend the shale beach nearer the pet cemetery. It's quiet and the stone steps are easy for dogs (at least my rat terrier) to navigate. He's not as confident on open stairs.

In our walks, we've encountered plenty of people, dogs, chipmunks (much to his delight), and even a woodchuck. Bring water for the end of the loop.

Parking is limited. We went today on a Monday at 1pm and the lot was full. We lucked out as someone was leaving. Otherwise, it would have been the second time there was no parking available when we went in early May.

    A fantastic place

A fantastic place that would make Gov Baxter proud! My grey can run and play in the water in early mornings or evenings when no one is on the beaches or we can walk the many trails on leash.

    Incredible!

Many, many bones rating from our whippets! Leashed but very, very much enjoyed. Peaceful, incredibly beautiful. Well worth a visit.

a mile and a half walka fun walk, aloop around the island

A beautiful location in Casco Bay with a view of Portland. The dogs were leashes but had a great time. The island is limited to 20 cars so it's not very crowded You can walk on the shore or above on the path. There's an unusual spot with little fairy houses built from sticks and shell. It's worth the visit
