Staunton State Park

One of Colorado's newest state parks, Staunton State Park in Pine, CO, is dog friendly. You'll discover high grassy meadows next to tall granite cliffs that can be as tall as 10,000 feet. This park is home to 25 campsites that can be hiked to, but you need to make a reservation to guarantee a spot for you and Fido. The park is closed for some parts of the year for maintenance, so you should call ahead to check they are open on the dates you are looking to visit. Pets must be on a six foot leash at all times. Many miles of trails

My pup enjoyed the 15 mile hike we took here a couple of months ago. The main attraction was the waterfall, but we added on some extra mileage visiting other trails. The park had a few porta-potties.

We did see a few cars back by the dam- makes hiking less enjoyable when all of a sudden some random vehicle (non-park) comes flying past on a trail that is supposed to be closed to vehicles.

Unfortunately, not everyone obeys the on-leash requirement, so while we were enjoying the waterfall, we had 3 pups race down the hill at us and it was a few minutes before we could see their owner.
