  Overall our dogs had a great time. Chasing feathers, running through the waves and rolling in the sand. We drove down one of the old boat ramps right onto the beach and let the dogs run on leash. We soon noticed every other dog there was off leash so we unleashed ours as well. We had plenty of space to ourselves and took full advantage of the open area. The signs all say to leash dogs but it doesn't make sense if you're there to let them swim, which we were. Other owners seemed responsible but always be aware and keep your dogs in check. The pup down the way didn't seem to like us much so we kept our distance and so did he. Go early before the crowds, pay for parking, and leave early. It's a nice spot to cool down but it's pretty murky on the beaches and there is no designated off leash area. Bring towels and seat covers!

  Nice scenery

  We took our two dogs to Millerton Lake for a short hike. First, you should know you'll have to pay to get in the park, $7 or so. We had read online to drive along the southeastern shore past the boat ramp a mile or two to intercept the trail a bit further in, which we did. The trail basically rides between the water's edge and a private property fence. It was relatively maintained, but significant overgrowth in areas had both our dogs plagued with sticky barb-type plants that we spent some time removing afterwards.
  Goods: was not crowded at all, gorgeous scenery of the sierras, close to Fresno
  Bads: pay to get in, parasitic plantlife, no designated "leash off" areas, "partiers" in the picnic area not exactly classy.
  Overall, it's worth the trip if you live near Fresno and want the feel of the outdoors without the drive to get there. If you have more time I would go somewhere else, further up into the mountains.
