  Not so honest advertising

  I was so excited to take my dogs to Little Tybee Island via kayak rental with Aquadawg. Since Tybee island doesn’t allow dogs on the beach this is the only option if you have fur babies that love water, or like mine, love kayaking. However, once I got to Aqua Dawg I was told they have a weight limit for dogs, 30 lbs for single or 50 lb tandem for your dog. Let me mention this is not due to kayak weight capacity, which is 250lbs for a single and ~400 lbs. for a tandem as my dog and I combined weigh about 190 lbs. Although I called Aqua Dawg several times before leaving home, 5 1/2 hours away, I only got the answering machine directing me to the website. I am an experienced kayaker and thoroughly researched the website before leaving and there was no mention of a weight limit. There are several pictures, even one on the brochure I picked up at the checkout counter of large dogs. Actually the picture of the dog on the brochure looks like a lab, which is my dogs breed. Average weight of the lab is 64-71 lbs, definitely not 30 pounds! So now I have booked a vacation on Tybee Island, with my dogs who are not allowed on the beach, and my only choice, if I want my fur babies to have some fun, is to turn around, drive home, switch vehicles which means completely unloading and reloading all my luggage and pick up my personal kayak and drive back, losing a full day of vacation. I am so mad at Aqua Dawg for their very dishonest representation. Labs love the water so I know I can’t be the only one who expected to be able to kayak with their dog only to have booked a vacation and invested my hard-earned money and vacation days on an expectation of a pet-friendly experience for my beloved lab. Note, I also have about a 12 lb dog that my husband was planning to take on his Kayak or would have done the tandem, but you can only have one dog per kayak.

  Would Go Again!

  Took my pup here and he loved it when we went. everyone there was so nice, offered free water for my dog.

  highly recommend!!!

  Our husky had never been to the ocean let alone on a kayak, so we were a bit nervous about how he would react. The friendly staff put us right at ease! They were quick to greet him, get him cold water, provide a doggie bowl for the kayak, and fit him with the right size life jacket. We could not have asked for a more fun and accommodating experience. If we return to Tybee, we will be sure to visit again! Oh and our puppy loved it too. ;)
