Cheesequake State Park

Look out, I think there's going to be a Cheesequake! Surprisingly, the park is not named after an astonishing natural event where cheese falls from the sky. The name actually comes from the Delaware word for upland. At this park, you and Fido will discover open fields, saltwater and freshwater marshes, a white cedar swamp, Pine Barrens, and a northeastern hardwood forest. There's also a beach, but dogs are not permitted on it. Family campsites #23-27 and #37-40 are pet-friendly, so you and your pooch can stay for a little longer. If you're vegan, you may want to give this one a miss. The park is open daily from 8am until 6pm. Visit Website

Great spot for pets and families!

This is a state park so be expected to pay during the regular seasonal hours. they charge by the car not the person. There are plenty of trails in several sections of the park. The trails are anywhere from 30 minutes up to two hours. Most trails are very shaded and in the woods. The trails are marked by colors. This park also offers fishing, crabbing and many fields for playing, kite flying , fetch and more. There is also a beach/lake area. The dogs are not allowed on the beach area however, one of the trails walks around the lake and there are several openings where your dog may choose to get wet. I am not 100% sure if the dogs are allowed to swim freely in the middle of the lake, but our dogs have gone up to their necks with no problem or complaint. The park is mainly for hiking. If interested, there are also several campgrounds for rent throughout the season.
