Huge Dog Park & Cool Beach

We love this park! Both the dog park and the dog beach (separate areas) are fun to visit. We come every week or every other week in the summer. The dog park is HUGE and has separated areas for large and small dogs. Most people are pretty good about cleaning up after themselves. The dog park can get crowded, especially on the weekend, but there's almost always enough space if you have a dog that wants to run or play fetch with you and not other dogs.

The dog beach is also great. It can get muddy/sandy, but if you've got a dog that loves to swim, this is a great local option. The beach is cordoned off with buoys to keep boaters out of the area, and there's some shade and a pretty good stretch of beach to spread out on. Unlike the dog park, the dog beach is NOT separated by size, so if you have a smaller dog be aware that there is not a separate small dog area at the beach itself. When the beach is crowded, this can be dangerous for smaller dogs. The beach does get more crowded than the park because it's not as big. We've opted not to go swimming a few times because of the number of dogs in the beach area.

Our family dog was attacked and killed at this park! **READ BELOW**

BEWARE OF WHITE HUSKIES (the owners have 2 of them).

Our dog, Coco, (~10 pound chihuahua) was attacked (unprovoked) and ultimately died from his internal injuries (a kidney and part of his intestines were torn through and outside of body). This happened at the Alum Creek dog beach park on Sunday (8/27) at 4:15pm in front of about 30 people. We rushed him to MedVet in Worthington, OH but his internal injuries were too extensive. The owner of the attacking dog paid the vet bill. At the very least, this dog (150 pound husky/malamute?) should not be allowed into public parks where this could happen again (maybe a child next time?). This is a vicious animal. This has been an extremely traumatic event for us and our children. He was with us for 14 years until his murder.

    Haven't visited in a while

We use to travel to Ohio to go to Alumni Creek b/c we felt it was one of the best water access parks. There two parks the one with the water access and the one on the hill that doesn't have access to the water. Our favorite time was to go when it was a bit cooler, and the water was low and the dogs could explore more.

    Two paws up!

Karmen loved it! We went on a Saturday so there was over a dozen furry friends. I love that they have several areas for you to let your dog run free. The gate system seems very secure as long as only one of the two gates are open at a time. Definitely would suggest giving your furry pal a bath when you get home as dogs potty in the water. Also wouldn’t advise pet parents to go out and swim in the water for the same reason.

    Chance to run

For out of town visitors, go to Hollenback Road and South Old State Road. Head directly east on Hollenback toward the reservoir, passing marina and the dog park will be on your left. Nice size place and as mentioned by others just watch for pushy pets. We alway walk the boundary of an unfamiliar part to observe and call our dogs if need be.

    Not really a Beach

This is practically the only dog friendly beach around Columbus and with all the good reviews our expectations were high. Unfortunately I would not call this a beach, but more of a mud bank. The smell was horrible and dog waist was everywhere. Old tree stumps and roots caused tripping and slipping hazards and owners crowded the water entry even though people are not allowed in the water. This place is maintained by volunteers, and unfortunatley it shows. Our dogs were uncomfortable here and we will not be back.

    Fun for Fido!

We visited for the first time last weekend. Our labradoodle had a blast! I will say I do not understand why people bring toys for their dog if their dog is EXTREMELY possessive of them. Obviously the other dogs are gonna want to check out that toy. There was a lab there whose owner brought a toy with them and any time another dog got within 5 feet, that dog snarled and growled viciously. I don't blame the dogs, you know how they are gonna react. The owners are the ones that need to wise up. We will definitely go back.

    Great Park

Took our dog to the park yesterday. All the dogs ran and chased each other. No issues at all. We didn't make it to the swim area, we will try that next! It's nice that Delaware Co has this for the dogs,

    Love Love Love!

I absolutely love this dog park! Between the water and the huge fenced in area for the dogs to run, it's a perfect combination! ... People have to understand that the dogs are going to play and get a little rough, but as long as their tails are wagging, they are still being playful!

    aggressive dogs at park

I had a situation with a dog attacking my dog and since the owner did not want to intervene I took it upon myself to snatch the aggressive dog by the collar and choke it to the ground and then made the dog owner leave the park. Usually the dog owner is a coward also

don't go if huskies are there

The park is great, however I will NEVER go on a weekend. There are a few owners with huskies and they are very aggressive! the owners are idiots and stand and watch while their dogs attack and bully others.

    Great time!

The park has two separate sections-a water play area with a beach and a land play area with a large grassy plot with trees for shade. Also, the grassy play area is divided into big and small dog areas for protection and has a water fountain and dog toys to use. There are bathrooms right across from the play area for pet owners and it is right by Alum Creek with plenty of more fun activities and scenery.
I have been bringing my dogs there for years and it has been well-maintained. Mostly people come on weekends, but if you want your dog to just get some exercise rather than interaction, the weekdays are nice too. Just make sure you keep an eye on your dog-the area is very big for the big dogs to run in and they may get in trouble!

    Great park... But...

This is a great park! However, there are people that bring aggressive dogs. We had a situation with a couple Huskies attacking our dog.

Take caution! Wait to observe the pooches and how the owners are 'handling'. Again, unfortunately, owners of not-so-friendly dogs bring theirs dogs here to 'let off some steam' which makes a real disaster for the rest of us!
