    Currently closed but Great park

I think they’re just downing some trees & repairing the fence in areas, which is great. Hopefully they fix the water spout as well. I haven’t been able to find out when it’s reopening but will post when I do. Still a nice place to walk the dogs on shady & easy trails.

    Decent, wooded dog park

I liked that it was wooded and had a few very short trails. It is definitely better than it just being a wide open trail. It just doesn’t look like it has been as kept up as others I’ve been to, but still a decent option.

Only going to decline with proposed changes

They’ve turned off the water to this park permanently and haven’t provided waste bags for a few years now. It’s a lovely park: actually has lots of trees for squirrels and shade. Unfortunately, they’re turning it into all the other dog parks in Athens when they redo it soon: no trees and just grass. Water will be outside the actual dog park. It’s a real shame. It used to be the one dog park I felt safe taking my dog to when it’s hot because of the ample shade and water access.

    Is it being let go?

Beautiful site. You and your dog will track lots of dust home. The last time that my dog and I visited in the spring of 2021, the fresh water source was not working and no poop bags were available. Also, do not let your dog swim in the lake. The water doesn't look pure and it's not.

    Finding the dog park

    It's a great park

When you enter from Gran Ellen Drive, turn immediately to the left in the direction of two wrong way signs. Not to worry! You'll find a hidden driveway to the right that takes you down hill to the lower parking lot and lake. Cross the wooden-planked bridge. The dog park, a wooded lot, is up the hill past the lavatory building. It has a double-gated entry.

    Great!

My dog and I both love it here. All the dogs are always nice and the owners are friendly. I bring him here most nights after dinner and he loves it!

    enclosed in the woods

Great space for dogs to roam in a wooded area. Maybe not big enough for running a large dog but perfect for my terrier
