The Michigan War Dog Memorial is a pet-friendly attraction in South Lyon, MI. Originally built in 1946 to commemorate the canine heroes responsible for saving 15,000 lives in World War II, the Michigan War Dog Memorial depicts a bronze German Shepherd atop an archway-shaped granite block. The headstones in front of the monument mark the final resting places of more than 20 Military Working Dogs. Leashed dogs are permitted on the grounds. Visit Website

    Wow! What a place!

If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping by. The tributes and respect these working dogs are getting is just beautiful. Thank you to those that keep this place up! I wish there was more of these around the state!

    Beautiful Tribute to Working Dogs

Did you know military dogs aren't allowed to be buried in National Cemeteries? I was outraged! The Michigan War Dog Memorial is the dog version of "Arlington Cemetery" but in Michigan. It used to be a pet cemetery, but is now for working dogs only. Some dogs are buried with full military honors. It's interesting to walk through here and read the plaques about where the different dogs served. My dogs walked through here to honor those dogs and we will forever remember the brave dogs who served.
