We drove for over half an hour from Petaluma having been told there was an off-leash beach. When we arrived, the sign basically pointed down into the water. Campers there told us, at best, it was a narrow strip at low tide and non-existent at high tide.

Beautiful large beach. Very clean. Go early to get parking. Dogs are welcome but on a leash. There is an off leash area but it’s very narrow made up of large rocks - no beach at all if the tide is in. Not what you picture when you think of your dog running on the beach.

My pup loved it!

Beautiful beach including bathrooms, but a bit crowded with off leash dogs (even in the leashed area). I witnessed a minor dog scuffle when an off-leash dog ran after a small dog on a leash. No dogs were injured, but be aware that irresponsible dog owners are not leashing their dogs in the leash area. I would still recommend because it is a lovely area with a nice relaxing view. Our dogs had a great beach day here, as did we.

Had a great time with our dog on beach. Lots of wildlife and friendly pups.

The off leash area varies in size by the tide - disappears altogether at high tide and plenty of play space at low tide. That said, the on leash area is huge.

Thought we’d try out Doran beach since all dogs must be on leash and my dog has what I call “stranger danger.” It was a great opportunity to socialize him without putting anyone at risk however the beach is super thin. It’s long but there’s not a ton of room to walk along the beach on a busy weekend.
