Sue Higgins Park

Sue Higgins Park is Calgary's premier off-leash park. Explore hundreds of acres of natural backcountry nestled along the Bow River with your pooch. Dogs can romp in the natural setting, go for a swim, and make new friends along the way. Dog owners are reminded to clean up any mess that is left behind and to make sure dogs are under voice control for the safety of other park users. Sue Higgins Park is open every day of the week from 5am to 11pm.

Snoop the Adventure Dog digs this park

Tons of open space, lots of puppers to meet, and fantastic location with several openings to the river for your parched pooch. This fully fenced park is a doggos dream.

    Excellent Trails And Swimming

My pup and I had a fantastic experience at Southward Offleash Park. The park was well maintained, laid out, and convenient. The trails led to lovely wooded areas that offered plenty of shade, and the river was super easy to access. A great time was had by all, and it is our new favourite spot in Calgary!

    Great Park

Our dogs travel everywhere with us from eastern Canada to western Canada to Arizona so we have seen many dog parks and off leash areas. This park is so well laid out and so big that's it's great for dogs and their masters.

    Best Park!

'Southland' has been re-named 'Sue Higgins Park', but it remains one of the best off-leash places in the city.

    Where all the Dogs Are!

If you are looking for a park full of dogs - this would be Calgary's most popular and active dog park! The recent improvements have made it a great park with easy trails including many that lead to the river - but be careful during the spring when the river is super fast and high at this park. It is fenced - so you do get a mix of good and bad dogs - but who cares as long as you have your dogs under control! Large park with three divided sections - our go to place to see the many dog breeds of Calgary.

    Bug loves it

Love going there for the completely fenced in are right along the river. Everyone is friendly, only down fall is that the only garbage cans are in the parking area and none in the park itself

    Hairy Loves it

Southland gives you piece of mind because it is completely enclosed by fences and gates. The Park is very clean due to many responsible dog owners...and some pick up above and beyond the call of duty. All dogs seems to be well socialized and Hairy has learned a LOT from other dogs by example.

    Chublet's Two Paws Up!

I have taken my dogs to this park, and Chublet particularly likes it. He's a pug and he isn't a good listener, so I love that this park is fenced for the most part. I don't have to worry about him running off across any roads. It can get really muddy when the dogs are swimming in the river and running around in the dirt, but that's something they love. I really enjoy our time there and there are LOTS of other dogs to play with. Great!

    Max Has Been Here!

Max loves Southland Park! Especially the way the path goes from one little beach to another little beach, to another little beach. It's a beautiful quiet place with lots of friends.
