Great but now taken over by the large dog owners

The larger area for large dogs is closed temporarily. We brought our small dog but were unable to come into the small dog area because large dog owners had set up shop. As soon as we got to the 2nd gate 2 dogs ran and aggressively barked at us and or dog,. The owners could really have cared less they just sat on their lawn chairs laughing as we left. At the very least there could be separate hours for large and small dog owners so everyone can enjoy the park.

Great Park - Bad experience via bad dog owner

We took Valkyrie for her second trip to a Dog Park today and she had a great time for 20-30 minutes. I was extremely proud and excited for her! We loved the scenery and the people were very nice. All the dogs seemed to be having lots of fun! Which is why I’m giving it a 5 star but our experience after that was not so good. This had nothing to do with the park and all about the dog and the owner, details below.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF CHASE AND HIS OWNER.

We had a great time until this dog, Chase decided to focus on Val. I ended up having to separate them because the owner of Chase did not think anything was wrong. The owner let me know that her dog plays by barking, snapping and lounging at the other dogs repeatedly. From my point of view, he did seem to have some form of aggressive playing. I kindly informed her that my dog does not think that is playing and is clearly in distress with a full tail tucked underneath, whining and hiding behind me for protection. The owner then recalled “it is a dog park” and took her dog on a leash to the middle of the park, sat down for no longer than 5 minutes with him making rude remarks about us and then let him back off. Immediately, he came running back to Val and I once again had to get in the middle of her dog hyper focused on my poor scared baby who was starting to get defensive back, as any normal dog would under such circumstances. We ended up just leaving since the lady clearly was not concerned that her dog had an issue playing with other dogs and insisted that we were the issue. We walked around the outside of the park and unfortunately heard and saw the same incident we found ourselves in, several times. Luckily no one was hurt during our time but someone with a more defensive dog in that situation, there would have been a fight.

Please make sure your dog plays nicely before coming to a public park. If you have to keep putting your dog on a leash and put them in “time out” they should not be there. If you’re not sure how they will do, come in small increments at a time. We witnessed several others leave with the same issue. I feel bad for the dogs that had their time cut short because of one silly dog owner that does not realize that their dog does not how to play right..

We will be checking for Chase and his owner before we enter next time!
