    Friendlier for small dogs

They've recently added an area for smaller dogs. It's grassy and has its own water faucet -- very nice. When it's not in use for smaller dogs, it can be used as a time-out place for a larger dog that is having problems.

    Darden Towe

I bring my dog here 2-3 times a week because it is close to where we live and there is often a good crowd of runners for her to play with. We have also come at times where we’ve been the only ones, which is always disappointing, but if you come in the evenings or weekend mornings, there’s usually a good group. There are also great trails along the Rivanna and a couple spots to cool off on a hot day.

    An unfriendly mud pit

I agree this "park" is unfriendly to smaller dogs, mine is 25pounds. People bring their unruly, sometimes aggressive, dogs and allow them to jump on you and create havoc. If you don't know how to train a dog, or get help doing it, then don't get a dog!

    Not small dog friendly

Most of the dogs are large dogs and relatively too aggressive for smaller dogs who want to play with owners and just have friendly social interaction.

    Decent

For a free dog park, I'm not complaining, other cities I lived in only had pay ones- 5-8 bucks a visit! The ground is somewhat hilly for such a small area and you'll definitely get dirty paws or more depending on their play style and the weather. But definitely the people and other dogs make it worth it. You'll get a variety of shapes and sizes and the owners are very friendly and understanding.

    Pick your time

My wife and I bring our big dog over the mountain from Harrisonburg as often as feasible. He has a great time - when there are dogs around. We haven't figured out the pattern yet, but some days there will be a good group of dogs that all run around and have a good time and other days we'll be the only ones there.

The comments about mud are totally true but it doesn't bother us - it adds to the fun!

great, but wear clothes & shoes that can get dirty

Very spacious with a lot of room for dogs to run around. It can get muddy, but they are usually good about putting down wood chips and there is a water spout you can use to wash of your dirty pup. There is also a river only a short walk away. It's a very popular spot and occasionally aggressive or anti-social dogs do turn up, but most will remove their dog if it tries to bite another. Don't be surprised if a dog jumps up on you or tries to hump yours.

    OK

It's OK and relatively clean. For some reason, people bring their aggressive and anti-social dogs to this park on Saturdays when it's packed. Why don't these dog owners pack up and go when it's clear the dog is not doing well? Beats me. Over all a fenced area with nice dogs (usually).

    Darden Towe dog park

It's a mud bowl. Your dog comes home filthy and so will your shoes.

    Darden Towe

This is a good place for your dog to meet other dogs. It's a hangout spot for dogs and humans alike! Although hard to fing, my puppy Milo loved running around and meeting more and more dogs.
