Visitors report the James Farm Ecological Preserve is a great pet-friendly destination with a clean, quiet beach and shallow water perfect for dogs to play. They note the trails are shaded and lead to the beach, though some found the trails confusing to navigate at first.

- AliSep 15, 2023Almost like a private beach!
great location to bring your pups! We did a beach day with our pup and we are the only souls on the beach for about 2 hours. Friendly people just a little bit of a hike from the parking lot and clean but far bathrooms for humans.
- ElizabethAug 29, 2023Lots of shallow water
Great place for dogs to play in shallow water! This was Ellie’s first trip to a beach and she loved it!
- LindaAug 1, 2023Found perfect walking trails
Walking and cooling off and repeat. Made for a great day. Don't forget OFF or Skin So Soft , mosquitos are hungry
- AlinaSep 21, 2022Great beach for dogs - once you find it / and survive the mosquitos
We visited this place yesterday with our 2-yr old miniature schnauzer. Leaving the parking lot the trails are poorly marked and we ended up schlepping our beach gear for app 1 1/2 miles on nature trails that did NOT take us to the beach. We also encountered 100s of mosquitos and today we are feeling like pin cushions (puppy seems fine). If you want to avoid our experience: Bring Off and spray before leaving the parking lot
- DaveSep 4, 2022No stingrays, please
FYI, there are no sting rays that climb out of the water here . Horseshoe crabs will not hurt your dog unless they are out in their back and their needle is up. This is a great place to expose your dogs and kids to something new.
- JenniferSep 4, 2022Very dog friendly
This is a nice shaded walk to the beach on the red trail. An employee directed us and was super nice to our pups. They ask that dogs be on a leash unless in the water. Nice beach with areas for the pups to swim. Shallow water and not too busy. Good find!

Athena and I took a walk through the preserve to get to the small beach area. There is different paths that can be taken. We cross a tiny boardwalk to this little beach area where there was just one family and no other dogs. However, there were stingrays in the water and on shore. I almost turned right around. But I found a spot that was clear and let her get her feet wet since it was a hot day and we just walked there. I don’t know if I came at a wrong time/season. But I wouldn’t suggest going there with your furbaby. She wasn’t interested in the sting ray. But they were in the water. So we just stayed close to shore where I could see that the area was clear. I was disappointed for the beach area. The walking area is nice. It’s in the shade. However, there is no nice reward afterwards if you don’t want your dog to go to the beach with stingrays. We will be trying another one tomorrow.

- LionesaMay 2, 2021New favorite dog beach!
Its hard to find a beach that I can bring my dog to, especially durring the months that you would normally go to the beach! Bruno had so much fun splashing around in the water, this beach & hiking trails were pet friendly, clean and a perfect place to spend the day! We didnt get to explore much this time but we definitely plan on coming back soon!
- FranJul 29, 2020Great place to walk and play with your dog in the water
This ecological preserve is a great place to bring your pup! It has great trails that are shaded by the tree and they all eventually lead to the beach on the bay. The water is very shallow for over a hundred yards out so you and your pup can walk out together and cool off in the bay.
They also have kayaks and SUP board available to rent. You can spend the whole day out there so bring a chair and some refreshments, especially water for your pup. Enjoy and keep it clean.
