Avenue of the Giants

Avenue of the Giants is a scenic drive you can enjoy with your pooch by your side. Located within Humboldt Redwoods State Park, this stunning drive is one of the best places to see redwoods by car in the entire North Coast region. You'll follow a 32-mile-long winding road through the giant redwood trees. Along the way, you and Fido can pause at Founder’s Grove, with its fallen 362-foot Dyerville Giant, and the California Federation of Women’s Clubs Hearthstone, designed by famed architect Julia Morgan. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you inside the vehicle. Dogs are only okay on grounds at the visitor center's picnic area and campgrounds only (not on trails). Visit Website

    No dogs on trails

Stunning old growth redwoods. The downside is dogs are only okay on grounds at visitor center picnic area and campgrounds only (not on trails). That is, dogs can't get out on auto tour stop trails. Also, ranger told me not to let the dogs in or drink the river water due to serious concentrations of highly toxic blue green algae (dogs will get sick and possibly die within four minutes to four days). Besides the visitor center, a great picnic spot / restroom stop was the California Women's Federation grove day use area. Also see the free Chimney Tree, free Eternal Tree, and free Immortal Tree stops on private property along the Avenue of Giants.
