is not really dog friendly
according o the Ellensburg city rules dogs can be on the trail but not in the developed grassy areas (which includes the picnic area)

Average dog park
We pulled up to the parking lot for the dog park near the sports fields and the area was decent. Large parking lot, two different fenced areas for off leash dogs. We went in April and there were no covered areas and it's a BYOWater situation. The dogs we met there were your average dog park pups. Decent spot to let our dog run some energy off while being off leash.

Not that great
Not easy to access, no seating, dirt lot with minimal shade. Sure, there is access to water for your pooch, but they will be muddy from head to toe by the time you get to the gate. No wonder there was nobody else at the park on a weekday evening when we went. You don’t have to take the trail, and you should Google the address for the park. We went on a unnecessarily long walk to get to the park. Either way you have to walk to the other side of the lakes to get to the dog park area. The path is unpaved and not ADA accessible.
